The present invention provides pre-expanded noncrosslinked polyethylene resin beads which are made of a mixed resin, as a base resin, comprising a high-pressure-process low-density polyethylene, a linear low-density polyethylene, and a linear high-density polyethylene and, when analyzed with a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), give a fusion endothermic curve which is a mountain-shaped curve having a single peak and in which, when the peak point of the mountain-shaped curve is referred to as A, the point of intersection of the perpendicular line drawn to the temperature axis from A and the base line of the fusion endothermic curve is referred to as B, and the two points at which the straight line drawn through the point C interiorly dividing segment AB in the perpendicular line in a ratio of 9:1 and parallel to the temperature axis intersects the fusion endothermic curve are referred to as D and E, then that temperature width of the mountain-shaped curve part which is the length of segment DE is 15.degree. C. or more. The present invention further provides a process for producing the pre-expanded beads. The pre-expanded beads of the present invention are applicable to in-mold molding for producing molded articles of complicated shapes, and the moldings satisfy the desired compression strength even when having a high expansion ratio.

A self-discharge type pulse charging electrostatic precipitator includes a high-speed switching element through which the electrical charge stored in a condenser is suddenly supplied to the electrostatic precipitator and the charge is dissipated in an internal resistance in the precipitator. A charging section of the electrostatic precipitator for one power source is divided into a plurality of charging sections which are coupled with each other through inductive elements. The electrostatic precipitator includes a device for supplying the electrical charge to each of the divided charging sections through the high-speed switching element successively in a time sharing manner and a charging capacitor having a capacitance which is substantially equal to a capacitance of the divided charging section. The electrostatic precipitator possesses enhanced precipitation efficiency by suppressing the back ionization and realizes reduction in cost of the power source.

In an oxygen sensor which is provided with an oxygen pump element having electrodes on both front and rear surfaces of a solid electrolyte plate with oxygen ion conductive property, voltage from an external power source is applied between the electrodes and a pumping current flows between the electrodes. Thereby oxygen is pumped out of ambient gases to be measured through a member including a gap with oxygen diffusion limiting property. The limit value of the pumping current accompanied by the oxygen pumping is determined or the oxygen concentration difference produced before and after the diffusive motion of oxygen through the member or oxygen concentration produced after the diffusive motion of oxygen through the member is measured. Thereby the oxygen concentration of the ambient gases is calculated. The oxygen sensor comprises a heater unit installed on the solid electrolyte plate of the oxygen pump element through an electric insulation layer, and a lead wire unit of one electrode of the oxygen pump element connected at one end to the heater unit. Thus the oxygen sensor is excellent in energy saving, detection accuracy, and reduction of use amount of electrode lead wires.
