摘要: While transmitting a first Ethernet frame from the first buffer onto an Ethernet link, a first Ethernet device may stop transmitting the first frame prior to completing transmission of the frame. The first Ethernet device may then transmit a second frame from a second buffer onto the Ethernet link. The first Ethernet device may resume transmission of the first frame from the first buffer onto the Ethernet link. A second Ethernet device may receive, via the Ethernet link, a first portion of a first Ethernet frame and store the first portion of the first Ethernet frame in a first buffer. The second Ethernet device may then receive, via the Ethernet link, a second Ethernet frame and store the second Ethernet frame in a second buffer. The second Ethernet device may then receive, via the Ethernet link, a second portion of the first Ethernet frame and append it to the contents of the first buffer.

摘要: A virtual machine running on an endpoint device may encode a mark comprising routing parameters within one or more packets of a packet stream to indicate services and/or costs to be utilized in processing and/or communicating the packet stream. The virtual machine may communicate the packet stream to another network device. The routing parameters within the marks may indicate device capabilities, service class, quality measurements, latency and/or power usage. The routing parameters may comprise costs that may indicate capacity, efficiency and/or performance of power usage, bandwidth, absolute and/or relative latency, frame-drop eligibility, memory and processing. The packet stream is received and inspected to identify the marks and/or routing parameters. A virtual machine may be initialized and/or configured to process and/or communicate the packet stream based on the routing parameters. Routing may utilize based SPB, TRILL, and/or AVB.

摘要: Aspects of a method and system for determination and exchange of network timing information are provided. In this regard, for each network hop traversed by a packet, a propagation delay of said network hop may be determined. Moreover, the propagation delay, and/or a hop length calculated utilizing the propagation delay, may be appended to the packet. The packet may, for example, be a MMRP registration packet or a SRP reservation packet. The packet may be dropped in instances that the propagation delay and/or length of a one or more traversed network hops is outside a determined range. The hop length may be determined by multiplying the propagation delay by a speed of propagation on the hop. The speed of propagation may be determined based on the physical layer technology associated with the network hop. Digital rights management may be implemented for media communicated on the network hop based at least in part on the hop length or the propagation delay. In this regard, use of media content may be restricted to a specified location.

摘要: A network switch is disclosed having at least one data port interface for receiving data and at least one link interface configured to transmit the data between the network switch and other network switches. The switch contains a data processor, having a segmented ring with a plurality of dedicated modules designed to process the data connected through that ring. A programmable ring dispatcher dispatches at least a portion of the data along a segmented ring to at least one of the dedicated modules. The data processor also has a command processor for processing commands received from the dedicated modules. The programmable ring dispatcher determines the first dedicated module to receive the portion of the data and that first dedicated module thereafter determines the next destination for the data potion. Because the dedicated modules can be added to or taken out the switch architecture based on the network environment, the switch is scalable and adaptable.
