Abstract:
An apparatus for etching optical servo tracks on a magnetic storage disk comprises optics for generating a beam of light for etching the servo tracks and a spindle for rotating the disk in proximity to the optics. The device further comprises a center pin at the center of rotation of the spindle and an alignment pin which is off-center of the spindle. A disk to be etched is placed on the spindle with the center pin through a center hole in the disk hub. A pressurized gas nozzle directs bursts of pressurized gas toward the edge of the disk to rotate the disk until an alignment hole in the disk hub engages the alignment pin.
Abstract:
1-Thioether-1-acylaminophosphatidylcholine compounds are structural analogs of platelet activating factor and useful for inhibition of phospholipase A.sub.2, reduction of blood pressure, and alleviation of inflammation.
Abstract:
Growing demand for high-rate wireless data services is increasing the power consumption requirements of mobile devices. In particular, some smart mobile devices or smart phones are configured to allow multiple software applications to run simultaneously. Some of the applications receive and/or pull data from servers in communication with the network. The more frequently these software applications are provided with access to the data channel the greater the demand on the power supply. Accordingly, there lies a challenge to regulate transmissions to and from a mobile device without adversely impacting quality-of-service (QoS). A method of managing power while maintaining a robust quality-of-service (QoS) is provided by managing the frequency at which a paging channel or the like is monitored. Complimentary methods of changing the frequency of transmission of alerts on a paging channel or the like is also provided.
Abstract:
Methods, systems and devices configured to add synchronization to the entry and exit from low power modes in asynchronous operating systems on a multiprocessor system. A synchronizing agent tracks the requested sleep and wake up times of the different asynchronous operating systems executing on different cores of the same system on chip or multicore processor. The sleep/wake up times of some cores/operating systems may be delayed in order to synchronize the sleep/wake up times of two or more of the asynchronous operating systems executing on the multiprocessor system.
Abstract:
A monolithic material including a first region having a first variability of strength and a second region joined to the first region, the second region having a second variability of strength, wherein the monolithic material has a variability of strength less than the first variability of strength of the first region and less than the second variability of strength of the second region.

Abstract:
A method and system for executing a plurality of threads are described. The method may include mapping a thread specified priority value associated with a dormant thread to a thread quantized priority value associated with the dormant thread if the dormant thread becomes ready to run. The method may further include adding the dormant thread to a ready to run queue and updating the thread quantized priority value. A thread quantum value associated with the dormant thread may also be updated, or a combination of the quantum value and quantized priority value may be both updated.
Abstract:
A monolithic orthopedic implant including a porous region having a form of interconnected porosity similar to cancellous bone to promote skeletal fixation by bone ingrowth, a transition region adjacent to and integrally joined to the porous region, the transition region having a form of interconnected porosity similar to subchondral bone, a substantially dense region integrally joined to the transition region and having a perimeter, and a surface on the substantially dense region, the surface having a finish adapted for articulation against native articular cartilage.
Abstract:
A wireless remote unit performs SPS acquisition interleaved with receiving paging information over a wireless slotted paging channel and receiving data packets over a wireless data communication system. The remote unit tunes to a pilot channel, synchronizes to an internal clock of the wireless remote unit with a pilot signal transmitted over the pilot channel; and starts a search for SPS satellites after completing synchronization with the internal clock.
Abstract:
A launchable rigid jacket of an offshore platform has a structure including an exterior framing and a plurality of cross-sectional frame sections. The exterior framing has four outside legs, which are spaced apart to define four corners of a trapezoidal cross section. The jacket also includes two launch runners mounted on adjacent parallel outside legs. The cross-sectional frame sections are horizontally positioned at periodic intervals along the height of the jacket and each has a plurality of members, which interconnect the four outside legs and are part of the exterior framing. The exterior framing in total defines an integral launch box for the jacket. A plurality of perpendicularly oriented conductors pass through each cross-sectional frame from the base to the top of the jacket and conductor guides connected to the respective frame sections slidably engage the conductors to laterally support them.
