The glass substrate is formed by chemically strengthening a glass substrate by immersing the glass substrate in a chemical reinforcement solution heated and then ion exchanging ions on the surface layer of the glass substrate with ions in the chemical reinforcement solution; removing the substrate from the chemical reinforcement solution and then annealing it to a temperature higher than the crystallization temperature of a molten salt; rapidly cooling the glass substrate at a rate at which the crystallization of the molten salt deposited on the surface of the glass substrate is prevented; and then cleaning the surface of the glass substrate. A process for calculating estimated vehicle speeds on the basis of wheel speeds of the vehicle wheels and a value resulting from addition of an offset value corresponding to an output error including a dispersion component and a slope component of an output from a longitudinal acceleration/deceleration sensor to a detection value detected by the longitudinal acceleration/deceleration sensor. In a condition in which it is determined that a vehicle is traveling at a substantially constant speed for a relatively long period of time, a first correction amount is calculated from an average value of variations in wheel speeds and an average value of outputs from the longitudinal acceleration/deceleration sensor during the long period of time. In a condition in which it is determined that the vehicle is traveling at a substantially constant speed for a relatively short period of time, a second correction amount is calculated from the average value of variations in wheel speeds and the average values of outputs from the longitudinal acceleration/deceleration sensor during the short period of time. An amount of correction of the zero point of the longitudinal acceleration/deceleration sensor is determined by the first correction amount, and the correction of the offset value is determined by the second correction amount.

The present invention provides a grease for copper electrical contacts having excellent properties which comprises polyol complex ester base oil and a specific amount of particular additives, i.e. quaternary ammonium salt-containing clay mineral, secondary aromatic amine antioxidant and a copper deactivator selected from the group consisting of benzotriazoles, thiodiazoles, and N,N'-disalicylidene- 1,2-diaminopropane. The grease according to the present invention can be applied effectively to a copper slide contact under both low temperature (ca.- 40.degree. C.) and high temperature (ca. 160.degree. C.) conditions.

An image forming apparatus is provided in which, during a continuous sheet passing, in the case where a between-sheets time is short, none of a cleaning mode and a drive OFF mode is performed; in the case where the between-sheets time is of a medium length of time, the cleaning mode is performed but the drive OFF mode is not performed; and in the case where the between-sheets time is long, both the cleaning mode and the drive OFF mode are performed. As a result, degradation of an image bearer due to the cleaning bias is alleviated, decreased productivity due to the cleaning mode is alleviated, a problem is alleviated in which a back surface of a recording medium gets dirty due to toner adhered to a transfer rotation body, and another problem is alleviated in which the service life of a driven member is shortened.
