Abstract:
A solid stick composition for use on steel surfaces that are in sliding or rolling-sliding contact. The solid stick composition comprises a vinyl ester resin, for example, from about 20 to about 80 weight percent vinyl ester resin, a solid lubricant, for example from about 0 to about 80 weight percent lubricant, and optionally a friction modifier, for example from about 0 to about 40% weight percent friction modifier, or a combination of a solid lubricant and a friction modifier. The solid stick comprises at least one of the lubricant or the friction modifier. A method of controlling friction between a metal surface and a second metal surface by applying the solid stick composition to one or more than one of the metal surfaces is also disclosed as well as a method of reducing lateral force in a rail system comprising applying the solid stick composition onto a wheel or rail surface.
Abstract:
A coated sheet-like plastics material comprising a) as base, a thermoplastic substrate; and b) on the base, a photocatalytically active coating comprising a water-spreading layer which involves either a sol-adhesion-promoter layer, layer b1+2), comprising an adhesion promoter and a colloid sol, or a colloid-sol layer b2) arranged on an adhesion-promoter layer b1) applied on the substrate a), and a photocatalytically active layer b3) arranged on the water-spreading layer b1+2) or b2), where b3) is obtainable through application and drying of a mixture comprising, based on the solids content of the mixture in percent by weight b31) from 1 to 25% of titanium dioxide and b32) from 75 to 99% of silicon dioxide and/or of a metal oxide which is not soluble in water or of an anionically modified silicon dioxide or metal oxide; where the titanium dioxide is particulate with an average primary-particle size smaller than 10 nm. In-line process for producing said material, and also use as roofing material or as glazing material, preferably in areas with moist conditions. The coated sheet-like plastics material of the invention combines water-spreading properties with photocatalytic activity, without any damage to the thermoplastic substrates. The coated sheet-like plastics substrate of the invention is produced in a relatively uncomplicated, inexpensive and fast in-line process and, in use, provides impressive substrate stability and impressive effectiveness of the coating in resisting initial algal growth.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a display unit, a drive rod, and an adjusting module. The display unit is for displaying information. The drive rod is connected to the display unit for moving along with the display unit. The adjusting module is connected to the drive rod, for rotating the drive rod.
Abstract:
A novel organic cation transporter (OCT) gene, OCT 6, and use thereof is described. The OCT6 gene is preferentially expressed in human hematopoietic tissues, including CD34+ cells and leukemia cells. Its narrow tissue distribution, substrate specificity, and close homology to other cell membrane transporters make OCT6 an attractive target for the treatment of myeloid diseases.
Abstract:
We describe a polypeptide which binds and modulates the activity of a tumour suppressor polypeptide, for example p53; a nucleic acid molecule encoding said protein and screening methods which modulate the binding activity of said polypeptide for its target polypeptide(s).
Abstract:
The present invention provides a friction control composition comprising a binder a rheological control agent, and optionally a lubricant. The liquid friction control composition may also comprise other components a wetting agent, a consistency modifier, and a preservative. The liquid friction control compositions may be used to modify the interfacial friction characteristics in sliding and rolling-sliding contact such as steel wheel-rail systems including mass transit and freight systems. A method of reducing lateral force, reducing energy consumption, or controlling friction between a metal surface and a second metal surface by applying the composition to metal surface, for example a top of rail or wheel, is also provided. The composition may be sprayed onto the rail surface.
Abstract:
A system for testing Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), includes: a controlling computer, an encoder, an IR transmitter, an IR receiver, and a decoder. The controlling computer is for transmitting a test instruction. The encoder is for receiving the test instruction via a port, and encoding the test instruction into an infrared (IR) signal. The IR transmitter is for transmitting the IR signal. The IR receiver is for receiving the IR signal. The decoder is for decoding the IR signal into a Visual Graphic Array (VGA) signal, and transmitting the VGA signal via a VGA port. A related method for testing LCDs is also provided.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a screening method to determine the susceptibility of a mammal, preferably a human, to abnormal development of the nervous system and including therapeutic methods and compositions for the treatment of neurodegenerative conditions which result in abnormal expression of a family of polypeptides which induce the apoptotic function of p53.
Abstract:
A method for processing information includes steps of: classifying a plurality of files into a plurality of groups, and each group is represented by one or more displayable images; designating each group according to a hierarchy of the groups; displaying images of one or more groups in a same level of the hierarchy in the form of a first virtual ellipse; locating centers of the displayed first virtual ellipses along a path of a second virtual ellipse; wherein a selected one of the groups in the same level of the hierarchy has its first virtual ellipse displayed in a size larger than that of any other displayed first virtual ellipse, a selected one of the images of the first virtual ellipse of the selected group is displayed in an active area of the first virtual ellipse of the selected group.
Abstract:
The invention provides a transgenic mouse and cell lines with a homozygous disruption of a chromosomal PTEN gene in prostate cells. The mouse progresses from hyperplasia to metastatic cancer and can be used to identify prostate cancer therapeutics and genes that are differentially regulated during androgen dependent and androgen independent prostate cancer progression.
