The filter assembly of the invention includes a mounting ring mountable in the filter opening. The mounting ring has a mounting interface, which includes an axially extending portion and a radially outwardly extending flange that has a diameter greater than the filter opening. A rib extends radially outwardly from and circumscribes the ring. The rib is seatable within an annular groove defined within the filter housing and circumscribing the filter opening. When the rib is positioned in the groove, the filter is releasably secured in the opening.

A latching mechanism includes a latching member 200 on the cartridge and a linearly moveable actuator 174 for releaseably securing the filter cartridge to the manifold assembly. A flow control valve ensures that the water circuit remains closed when the filter cartridge is removed from the manifold.

摘要： This disclosure relates to an encapsulated filter unit, a system and a method of filtering fluids. The filter unit has a generally cylindrically shaped, membrane filter body with a plurality of filter elements. An anti-telescoping connecting element at each element end joins the filter elements end to end and coaxially to one another. The joined elements are housed by a relatively rigid outer shell. A filter head at each end of the unit enables connection of the units to one another while capping the unit ends. The shell comprises a barrier tube encased by a first helically wrapped layer of a first material, and each filter head includes an adapter encapsulated by a first hoop wrapped layer of a second material. The respective layers abut one another such that a continuous, generally uniform, relatively rigid composite outer wrapped layer is formed for effectively encasing the unit. The adapter has a slot located on an interior peripheral surface for receiving a sealing member. Upon engagement of the sealing member with the slot on one side and the barrier tube, or alternatively the connecting element, on the other side, a flexible seal between the adapter and barrier tube (or connecting element) is effected during filter unit operation. A second hoop wrapped layer of a third material is formed about both the first helically wrapped layer and the first hoop wrapped layer for effectively and aesthetically encapsulating the unit.

The manifold assembly is in communication with the wafer inlet to the appliance and routs the filtered water to points of use in the appliance. The manifold assembly includes water usage sensor to monitor filter cartridge life and relay that information to the appliance, which will then alert the user when it is necessary to replace the filter. A latching mechanism is included to releasably secure the filter cartridge to the manifold assembly. A flow control valve ensures that the water circuit remains closed when the filter cartridge is removed from the manifold assembly. The cartridge and manifold assembly include registration features to ensure that reverse installation of the cartridge will not occur.

摘要： A filter manifold is provided in a water purification system and includes at least one filter element for producing relatively purified water, wherein the filter manifold incorporates a shut-off valve designed to prevent filter element removal unless the shut-off valve is first switched to a closed position for turning off the incoming water supply. The shut-off valve includes an elongated actuator lever which in a normal open position engages and retains a manifold latch plate in a latched position retaining the filter elements in connected relation with flow couplers to produce purified water. Upon movement of the actuator lever to a closed position shutting off the incoming water supply, the manifold latch plate can be unlatched from the filter elements to permit filter element removal and replacement.
