Abstract:
Methods of depositing hardfacing material portions of earth-boring tools may involve supporting at least a portion of an earth-boring tool in a holder of a workpiece positioner, the holder being movable in at least a third plane. A location of a surface of the at least a portion of the earth-boring tool may be determined utilizing at least one sensor. The workpiece positioner, the sensor, and a torch positioner comprising a hardfacing torch movable in at least a first plane perpendicular to the third plane and a second plane parallel to the third plane may be controlled utilizing a programmable control system to cause the torch positioner to oscillate the hardfacing torch in the second plane while selectively causing the workpiece positioner to move the holder in the third plane and causing the torch to deposit hardfacing material on the surface.
Abstract:
Nozzle for thermal spray gun, thermal spray gun and method for forming nozzle. Nozzle includes a nozzle body having a central bore and an exterior surface structured for insertion into a thermal spray gun and a water coolable surface coating applied onto at least a portion of the exterior surface. The water coolable surface coating is structured to protect the exterior surface from a chemical interaction with cooling water guided through the thermal spray gun.
Abstract:
A torch (1) for thermal spraying of surface coatings, of the type that comprises a head (3) and a bracket (2) for the head (3), in which the head (3) pivots relative to the bracket (2). The invention also relates to the coatings obtained using the torch, whether of polymer, metal or ceramic materials, on any substrate coated thereby, whether of polymer, metal or ceramic or composite materials. The invention is applicable to different types of thermal spray torches, using plasma spray, combustion spray, High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF), or Low Velocity processes.
Abstract:
An alignment tool is used to ensure proper alignment of a component on a rotating gear relative to a non-rotating platter. The alignment tool includes a first arm member coupled to a locating feature on the gear, and a second arm member that is coupled to the first arm member such that the second arm member is movable relative to the first arm member. When the first arm member is coupled to the locating feature, the second arm member locates off the platter to verify proper alignment. The second arm member is cannot be fitted to the platter when there is improper alignment.
Abstract:
A device is disclosed that uses a flow-control methodology to control sprays at very high precision and frequency. The device is based on an enhanced Coanda effect. The control flow is selectively applied to the region in which we desire the jet to vector and control the profile (width) of the jet. The control flow is introduced through multiple control flow ports surrounding the primary nozzle and adjacent to the Coanda surface. By selectively opening and closing different control flow ports the motion and profile of the jet can be controlled.

Abstract:
For uniformly coating a substrate with a spray, a stream of liquid falls past a point towards which a plurality of nozzles in a bank are all directed but at different angles. Bursts of atomising gas are sprayed through the respective nozzles in a repeated sequence, such as to cause a repeated sequence of equal durations of spray in a plurality of directions.
Abstract:
A method of forming a generally planar part for a jet engine is provided. The part is adapted for withstanding high thermal stress but not high mechanical stress. A preformed strip of a superalloy is mounted around a drum shaped mandrel. A low pressure plasma deposit of a different superalloy is formed on the preformed strip. The strip is demounted and mechanically straightened.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device and a method for the metallic coating of a work piece with a mobile coating lance (20), by means of which a metal plasma jet can be generated to create the coating consisting of metal particles. According to the invention, an extraction hood (30) is provided, which at least encloses an axial section of the coating lance (20) in a ring-shaped manner, and the extraction hood (30) has a ring-shaped holding unit (50), which is configured to take up the metal particles.
