Single skin molded articles may be multi-layered with or without paint on the surface. Multiple skin molded articles may be made by complementary male and female molds, brought together after the skins are made on the individual male and female molds, and may include sandwiched layers of plastic filler or expandable foam filled centers, with or without various inserts or reinforcements. Multi-layer composite articles are made with inserts and/or reinforcements that may be embedded in and surrounded by expandable foam plastic, if used as a middle layer. Resulting articles include a pick-up truck bed box, an industrial tabletop, a series of modular housing panels, an airplane cockpit door, and material handling pallets, among others.

The present invention concerns a device for molding of thermoplastic matrix composite materials or thermosetting materials. Two mold casings that are mobile relative to each other, electrically conductive material include a molding zone designed to be in contact with the material to be transformed, and an induction circuit for generating a magnetic field. The faces of one of the two mold casings are situated so as to be facing induction circuit, except for the molding zones, being coated with a shielding layer made of a non-magnetic material preventing the magnetic field from penetrating into the mold casings. The mold casings are electrically insulated from each other during the molding phase to define an air gap wherein flows the magnetic field that induces currents at the surface of the molding zones, thus localizing the heating at the interface between the molding zone and the material to be transformed.

A process for producing a composite of aluminum material and synthetic resin molding with high efficiency; and a stable fast composite exhibiting high peeling resistance and large mechanical strength. The process is characterized in that aluminum material (1) is anodized in electrolytic bath of phosphoric acid or sodium hydroxide to thereby form anodic oxidation coating (2) provided with innumerable pores (3) having a diameter of 25 nm or more made open in the surface thereof is formed thereon, and a synthetic resin mold (6) is coupled with the anodic oxidation coating (2) in such a condition that the portion (6a) of the synthetic resin molding (6) is intruded or anchored in the innumerable pores (3) of the anodic oxidation coating (2). By this process, composite (P) with the above properties can be easily obtained.

Disclosed herein is an injection apparatus and control method thereof. The apparatus comprises a nozzle to guide a raw material to flow into an injection mold, a microwave transmission part positioned at a portion of the nozzle, and a microwave generation part positioned near the nozzle to generate and irradiate microwaves to the microwave transmission part. With this structure, vulcanization of the raw material injected into the injection mold occurs uniformly and rapidly within the injection mold, thereby improving a quality of an injection molded product while increasing a speed of injection operation.

In one embodiment of the present invention a method for forming polymer includes heating the mold apparatus with a first heat energy source comprising heating fluid to a first mold temperature, and then heating the mold apparatus with a second energy source which is different than the first energy source. The second energy source heats the mold surface to a second mold temperature greater than the first mold temperature to form the part to achieve a desired surface finish of the polymer part.

A source of air is channeled through a manifold to flow about the center section of the mold and through the space between the mold and the aperture in the spool to rapidly cool the mold. Thermal chokes on each side of the center section of the mold impede heat transfer and a heat sink connected to each thermal choke serves to dissipate any heat build up. The spool may be translated along the center section of the mold to a predetermined location commensurate with a predetermined heat profile. The mold includes a passageway extending therethrough for receiving the tubing; by appropriate dimensioning, the passageway will accommodate the use of a mandrel to support the tubing to be formed, molded or welded. The mold may be split to permit separation within the confines of the aperture in the spool and subsequent withdrawal of the formed, molded or welded tubing.

An apparatus and method for forming a composite workpiece are provided. An electromagnetic field generator induces a current in a susceptor, thereby heating the workpiece in a die cavity. An elastomeric bladder in the cavity is inflated and urges the workpiece against a contour surface corresponding to a desired configuration of the workpiece. Coolant fluid can also be circulated through the die cavity to cool the workpiece. Thus, the workpiece can be heated, formed, and cooled quickly and without substantial heating of other components, thereby reducing the time and energy relative to conventional forming methods.
