The vehicle-stop-state motor-OFF controller performs a vehicle-stop-state motor-OFF control that stops the pump motor upon the vehicle being stopped by the brake operation, and that maintains a stop state of the pump motor as is during stopping of the vehicle. The pressurization rate controller adjusts a pressurization rate of the wheel cylinder pressure to a higher value as a road surface gradient becomes larger upon resuming operation of the pump motor after the vehicle-stop-state motor-OFF control ends due to acceleration from the vehicle stop state.

When a brake operation is carried out, the integration controller carries out a regenerative brake control which achieves a target deceleration. Furthermore, when the vehicle velocity exceeds a second prescribed value and the brake operation is carried out while the VDC motor is in the suspended status, the value of the target deceleration is set to a lower value than the value of the target deceleration which the driver requests, and a motor reactivation control is carried out which reactivates the VDC motor.

A first fluid conduit connects the master cylinder to the wheel brake, a second fluid conduit connects the fluid pump to the wheel brake, a third fluid conduit connects the fluid pump to the accumulator, a fourth fluid conduit connects the accumulator to the suction port of the fluid pump, and a fifth fluid conduit connects the wheel brake to the reservoir. A first valve opens and closes the first fluid conduit, a second valve opens and closes the second fluid conduit, a third valve opens and closes the third fluid conduit, a fourth valve opens and closes the fourth fluid conduit, and a fifth valve opens and closes the fifth fluid conduit. A foot force sensor detects the force applied to the brake pedal, a vehicle deceleration sensor senses the vehicle deceleration, and a controller estimates a target deceleration of the vehicle based on the foot force detected by the foot force sensor. The controller supplies fluid pressure to the wheel brake by controlling the first valve, the second valve, the fourth valve, the fifth valve and the fluid pump so that the vehicle deceleration agrees with the target deceleration of the vehicle estimated by the controller and controls the third valve and the fluid pump in order to store the fluid pressure in the accumulator.

The method and system for controllably restricting the on time of a pump of an electro-hydraulic control system for a hydraulic brake system by modeling the amount of hydraulic brake fluid in a low pressure accumulator (LPA) of the hydraulic brake system. Sensors sense wheel speed of their respective wheels of a vehicle. Control valves, including isolation and dump valves, together with the pump, vary the amount of brake fluid in the LPA. A control unit electrically coupled to the pump, the control valves and the wheel speed sensors, initially detects an electro-hydraulic control event based on the sensed wheel speeds and then activates the control valves and pump which vary the amount of brake fluid in the LPA. The control unit models the amount of brake fluid in the LPA during the activation and controls the state of the pump based on the modeled amount of brake fluid in the LPA. The modeled amount of brake fluid in the LPA consequently is based on the on time of the pump and the total on time of all of the dump valves in the electro-hydraulic control system.

A vehicle hydraulic brake system having an anti-lock protection device and an automatic braking system, particularly when driving around bends. During automatic braking, an auxiliary pressure source supplies a pressure instead of the main brake cylinder and this pressure can be individually set by pressure reduction in the wheel brakes by means of the anti-lock protection device. For this purpose, cylinders with separating pistons are located between the auxiliary pressure source and the anti-lock protection device. The auxiliary pressure source supplies substantially lower auxiliary pressures than known systems by supplying pressure to the inlets of feed-back pumps by arranging valves which permit temporary pressure increases to the extent necessary for automatic braking by means of these feed-back pumps. The system requires less energy and less noise is caused in automatic braking operations.

A brake fluid distribution control system for use in closed antilocking brake systems includes a switch in communication with low pressure accumulators for cyclically activating pumps that evacuate the low pressure accumulators of brake fluid under desired conditions. The method associated with this invention can be implemented by providing an indicator for indicating the amount of fluid within the accumulator and a switch for cyclically activating the pump when the fluid within the accumulator reaches a preselected capacity level. Alternatively, the antilocking brake system electronic controller is provided with appropriate software for cyclically activating the pump that evacuates the accumulators under preselected conditions.

The modulator (15) includes a triple seat, dual check valve (15A, 15B) and a pair of triple seat, dual solenoid valves (10, 28).
