摘要: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for reducing catenary during winding of a fiber bundle which includes a plurality of fiber strands into a wound package. The method includes: applying substantially equal tension to each of a plurality of fiber strands; gathering the strands to form a bundle; advancing the bundle at a predetermined speed and tension toward a winding device; measuring the tension of the bundle; adjusting the tension of the bundle by adjusting the speed at which the bundle is advanced, such that (1) the speed of advancement of the bundle is increased when the measured tension of the bundle exceeds a predetermined value and (2) the speed of advancement of the bundle is decreased when the measured tension of the bundle is less than a second predetermined value; and winding the bundle to form a wound package. The apparatus includes a frame; a plurality of fiber strand supply packages; a plurality of tensioning devices for applying substantially equal tension to each of the fiber strands; a gathering device for gathering the fiber strands into a fiber bundle; a feed device for advancing the fiber bundle at a predetermined speed to a winding device; a tension sensing device for determining the tension in the bundle and providing a signal to a feed device controller which adjusts the speed of the feed device in response to the signal from the tension sensing device; and a winding device.

摘要: A wire transport apparatus has a pair of rollers having opposed peripheral running surfaces which at their nip contact the wire to drive it, one of said rollers being driven. The driven roller is mounted on an arm swingable about a pivot axis. The arm also carrying a coupling pulley connected to the driven roller to drive it in rotation. The coupling pulley is itself driven in rotation by an endless flexible element whose tension tends to cause said driven roller to apply load to said wire. In order that variation of the tension in belt also adjusts the normal force applied to the wire by the driven roller, the pivot axis is parallel to the direction of wire travel, and the driven roller and the coupling pulley are on a common rotational axis perpendicular to the pivot axis, at different distances from the pivot axis. Excessive force on the wire is avoided, and wear is minimized.

摘要: A mechanical figure eighting apparatus is disclosed which permits a fiber optic cable to be deposited on the ground in a random or figure eight configuration. Fiber optic cable is passed over a rotating drive wheel and is held in frictional engagement with the peripheral rim portion of the drive wheel by a pressure wheel mounted thereover. The fiber optic cable is passed or pushed outwardly through a tubular member extending outwardly from the drive wheel. The fiber optic cable is deposited on the ground in a random fashion or figure eight fashion as it is discharged from the tubular member.

摘要: The specification describes a mechanism for controllably advancing material such as wire to a work station. The mechanism includes two frusto-conical shaped wheels mounted in a face to face relationship so that the wire is pulled through the nip formed by a rotation of the wheels. One wheel has an associated bias adjustment means which is adapted to vary the pressure exerted by one wheel on the other. A flexible wire guide, and an adjustable spool holder form part of the mechanism.

摘要: A cable feeding and brake device for use in controllably lowering hanging cable with the aid of gravity through passage means between floors of a high-rise building wherein the device includes a housing supported by legs, the housing carrying a plurality of rollers defining a guideway for the cable between rollers disposed on opposite sides of the cable passing through the guideway, a manually rotatable hand wheel positively turns a pair of the rollers through a chain drive and a manual adjustment urges a roller on the opposite side of the cable between the spaced driven rollers to deflect the cable thereby providing a holding resistance against downward pulling of the cable through the housing guideway. The device is also provided with a manually operated brake which positively clamps and holds the cable in a desired fixed position.

摘要: Planetary wire-feeding device having a housing containing rollers which freely rotate about axles arranged at an angle to each other and crossing the electrode wire being fed by the mechanism. In one embodiment disclosed herein the housing is of spherical form and is made of two identical hemispherical parts interconnected by means of connecting means which are placed in tension. Two opposite coaxial holes the geometrical axis of which lies at the contact plane between the two hemispherical parts of the housing are formed in the hemispheres. The unit for thrusting the opposed rollers toward each other and into engagement with the wire is formed as a support seat formed in each hemispherical part of the housing, the seats being parallel to the contact plane between such hemispherical parts. The limiting cylindrical part of the support and guiding component is mounted at the opposite ends of the support and guiding component in the two coaxial holes in the housing and the central hub thereof rests in the cylindrical seat provided in each hemispherical part above the supporting seat.

摘要: Method of producing a group of wires, W.sub.1, W.sub.2, W.sub.3 . . . W.sub.n, which have predetermined lengths L.sub.1, L.sub.2, L.sub.3 . . . L.sub.n respectively comprises the steps of guiding the wires from substantially endless sources of wire and locating the leading ends of the wires on a feed roll in parallel side-by-side relationship with each wire disposed between the feed roll and a separate associated pressure roll. The pressure rolls are normally spaced from the feed roll so that they are in a non-feeding position but they can be selectively moved towards the feed roll into a feeding position. The feed roll is started during each of a plurality of wire feeding cycles and during each cycle, at least one of the wires is fed by selectively moving the associated feed roll to its feeding position. During each cycle, the feed roll is rotated through a number of revolutions which feed the wire or wires by a precisely predetermined amount which is related to the length of the shortest wire and to the difference in the lengths of the remaining wires. The feed roll is brought to a complete stop between the successive cycles. When the feed roll is started, at the beginning of each cycle, it is accelerated at a high and ideally constant rate and when the feed roll is stopped at the end of each cycle, it is decelerated at a high and ideally constant rate.

摘要: A planetary wire feeder for feeding wire workpieces such as welding wire for a MIG or TIG welding operation comprises two sets of rollers connected to rotate in unison about the axis of the wire and radially spaced from each other in a housing. Roller holders have an axially tapered outer surface and are axially movable within the housing. Stationary gibs mounted within the housing with complementary tapered surfaces adjust the spacing between the roller holders at different axial positions of the roller holders within the housing. A nipple is provided on one roller holder tapered outer surface to equalize the pressure of each set of rollers on the wire.

摘要: A wire feeding unit and an associated wire length measuring unit advance supply wire through a cutting zone and at the same time the advanced supply wire is guided by a wire transfer system across transversely spaced endless conveyor chains of a wire propelling conveyor. The feeding unit is automatically stopped when it has advanced a measured length of the supply wire and the transfer system tensions the advanced supply wire while it is held against lengthwise displacement by the stopped feeding unit. The wire transfer system then engages the stopped and tensioned wire length with gripping jaws on the conveyor chains, the gripping jaws are closed, and the supply wire is severed in the cutting zone. Tensioning of the advanced supply wire prevents it from sagging between the transversely spaced conveyor gripping jaws and thereby avoids undesirable length variations of the cut off portion of the supply wire. The mechanism for severing the supply wire in the cutting zone is laterally adjustable to clear the adjacent end of the cut off wire length during subsequent advance movement of the conveyor chains.
