Abstract: The invention relates to compositions, methods and preparation of such compositions to protect metals from corrosion, especially acid corrosion. The compositions of this invention may be added to acids to protect metals from their corrosive influence, particularly at elevated temperatures. These compositions are of particular utility in the oil and gas (petroleum) industry. Also disclosed are “corrosion inhibition intensifiers” to enhance the corrosion inhibition properties of other corrosion inhibitors. Formulations which control ferric ions in acidic solutions are also disclosed. These may be combined with inhibited acids and some compositions provide both corrosion inhibition and ferric ion control.

Abstract: A synthetic acid composition for use in oil industry activities is disclosed. The composition comprises urea and hydrogen chloride in a molar ratio of not less than 0.1:1; a metal iodide or iodate; an alcohol or derivative thereof. Optionally, the composition may include formic acid or a derivative thereof propylene glycol or a derivative thereof, ethylene glycol glycerol or a mixture thereof; cinnamaldehyde or a derivative thereof; and a phosphonic acid derivative.

Abstract: Treatment fluids and methods include a method that includes the steps of providing or preparing a foamed chelating agent treatment fluid that includes: an aminopolycarboxylic acid chelating agent, an aqueous base fluid, a gas, and a foaming agent, and lacing the foamed chelating agent treatment fluid in a subterranean formation penetrated by a well bore. The aminopolycarboxylic acid chelating agent foamed fluids may also be used in equipment clean-out operations.

Abstract: A recoverable instant thickening acid and its reusing method is usable for the recycling and reusing of a gas well carbonate reservoir acidizing fluid and production stimulation operation. The recoverable instant thickening acid includes the following components in weight percentage: 1.5-3 parts of a thickener, 0.5-3 parts of potassium chloride and 100 parts of a hydrochloric acid solution, wherein the thickener is a mixture composed of a mass ratio of 40%-70% of N-lauryl-N′-hydroxyethyl-N′-hydroxypropyl ethylenediamine propionate or its derivatives, 4%-12% of ethanol and 18%-56% of water. With the thickening acid for performing an acidizing treatment, the residual acid solution can be re-prepared as a thickening acid for an acidizing treatment without a chemical treatment, assisting the green and environmentally friendly production and sustainable development of gas fields.

Abstract: Compositions and methods for formulating treatment fluids that comprise a surfactant having reduced and delayed adsorption. In one embodiment, the method comprises: providing a fluid comprising: an aqueous base fluid, a surfactant, and a polyelectrolyte; introducing the fluid into a wellbore penetrating at least a portion of a subterranean formation; and contacting at least a portion of the subterranean formation with the polyelectrolyte. In another embodiment, the method comprises providing a fluid comprising: an aqueous base fluid, a surfactant, and a polyelectrolyte; injecting the fluid into a wellbore penetrating at least a portion of a subterranean formation at a pressure sufficient to create or enhance one or more fractures within the subterranean formation; and contacting at least a portion of the subterranean formation with the polyelectrolyte.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method comprising a) introducing a delayed-release acid and a gelling agent into a subterranean formation at a rate and pressure sufficient to create or enhance at least one fracture in a first treatment interval; b) contacting the delayed-release acid with a face of the fracture in the first treatment interval so as to etch one or more channels thereon; c) introducing a combination of non-degradable and degradable micro-proppant particulates into the subterranean formation so as to place them into the fracture in the first treatment interval, wherein they at least partially inhibit fluid flow therethrough; d) introducing a combination of non-degradable and degradable proppant particulates into the subterranean formation so as to place them into the fracture in the first treatment interval, wherein they at least partially inhibit fluid flow therethrough; e) repeating (a) through (d) at a second treatment interval.

Abstract: In a subterranean formation, complexation of metal ions can often be desirable in order to mitigate reactivity of the metal ions. However, many chelating agents used for this purpose are commercially manufactured in an alkali metal salt form that may not be entirely suitable for use downhole. The working pH range of some types of chelating agents may also be limiting. Accordingly, methods for treating a subterranean formation can comprise: providing an acidic treatment fluid comprising a sulfonated iminodiacetic acid; introducing the acidic treatment fluid into a subterranean formation; and at least partially dissolving an acid-reactive substance in the subterranean formation while complexing one or more metal ions with the sulfonated iminodiacetic acid.

Abstract: Dual-purpose additives that may be used as viscosifying agents and surface active agents in fluids, subterranean treatments and oilfield operations are provided. In one embodiment, the methods comprise: providing a treatment fluid comprising a base fluid and a polymeric dual-purpose additive comprising a base polymer comprising a plurality of monomer units, and one or more hydrophobic groups bonded to at least one of the monomer units; introducing the treatment fluid into at least a portion of a subterranean formation; and depolymerizing at least a portion of the dual-purpose additive to form one or more surface active fragments, each of the surface active fragments comprising one or more of the hydrophobic groups bonded to one or more of the monomer units.
