    摘要: A system and method are provided for reducing dynamic EVM of an integrated circuit power amplifier (PA) used for RF communication. In a multistage PA, the largest amplification stage is biased with a high amplitude current pulse upon receipt of a Tx enable, before receipt of the RF signal data burst. The high amplitude current pulse causes a large portion of the total ICQ budget of the multistage PA to pass through the largest amplification stage causing the entire integrated circuit to rapidly approach steady-state operating conditions. A smoothing bias current is applied to the largest amplification stage after the pulse decays to compensate for transient bias current levels while standard bias circuitry is still approaching steady-state temperature.

    摘要: The present invention generally relates to the field of automatic power control (APC) circuitries used in the analog front end of a mobile transmitter. It particularly refers to a power control circuitry and a corresponding method for controlling the power level of an RF signal to be transmitted at the output port of a variable-gain power amplifier by performing an additional regulation of the APC loop's reference signal. Thereby, it is proposed to increase the radiated RF power in case a transmitting antenna is mismatched to said power amplifier in order to not release an ongoing call. In case there is a subject very close to the terminal antenna, the antenna load is changed and the increased reflected signal is measured. In a closed loop this increased reflected signal is mixed with a reference ramp signal which is used to calculate a reference signal representing the nominal power level for the power of the RF signal to be transmitted, which leads to an increasing of the radiated power and prevents said call from being released. The step of calculating the reference signal as a function of the reference ramp signal and a DC feedback signal is realized by the substeps of multiplying a processed version of the DC feedback signal by the reference ramp signal and adding the output signal of the multiplication step to the reference ramp signal thereby yielding said reference signal.

The digital gain signal generator is adapted to generate and incorporate a gain arc into a digital gain signal. A combiner is adapted to receive and combine a digital input signal with the digital gain signal, to generate a pre-compensated digital signal. The variable gain amplifier is adapted to apply gains indicated in the gain ramp signal to a pre-adjusted analog signal, which is generated based on the pre-compensated digital signal, in order to generate a gain-adjusted analog signal.

In one example embodiment, the inter-slot is positioned between first and second timeslots capable of transmitting modulated signals. In this example embodiment, the inter-slot power level is maintained within a predetermined deviation from a specific range. The specific range is defined by the first and second timeslot power-levels.

In DCS1800 and DCS1900, transmission power is set in a high transmission power mode at 33 dBm by a high-gain input amplifier to activate an internal voltage follower of a bias circuit, and in WCDMA1900, in a low transmission power mode at 28 to 29 dBm by a low-gain input amplifier to inactivate the voltage follower. Switching of the high and low transmission power modes and controlling the voltage follower are performed according to a mode signal. In an RF power amplifier module that transmits frequencies of GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900, and WCDMA1900, it is possible to reduce the number of power amplifiers and, for ramp-up and ramp-down of the GSM standard, to perform high-speed control of an input bias voltage and reduce noise of a transmission power of a wideband WCDMA.
