摘要： A system and method for obtaining data regarding customer use of interactive television, where application servers residing at a broadcast center include application programs that provide customers with a graphical user interface. Customers may retrieve the application programs via a satellite through integrated receiver/decoders (“IRDs”). The IRD includes a modem, callback functionality and flash memory for storing a data log of customer transaction and navigation data. Communications servers reside at the broadcast center for receiving callbacks from the IRDs. Interactive servers also reside at the broadcast center where the interactive servers include interactive data repositories IDRs for storing data. The interactive servers may also include a parser of the data in the data log and an encapsulator of data into the appropriate protocol for database users.

摘要： A receiver/decoder for use in a digital satellite radio or television system includes a decoder and means to accommodate a credit or bank card carrying a microprocessor, and means to interact with said microprocessor when the credit or bank card is inserted into an operative position in said receiver/decoder in order to enable data carried by said credit or bank card to be read and data to be input to the microprocessor carried by said credit or bank card. A PIN number may be transmitted to the receiver/decoder in a secure fashion by means of a remote controller, which is also described. Applications of the invention include Pay-Per-View television, teleshopping and telebanking.

摘要： A system and method for enabling a user to request and download selected media files from distributed content provider sites via the Internet. The system includes a plurality of user sites each including a player/receiver housed in an enclosure having a simple user interface, a plurality of content provider sites, and a transaction server site. The player/receiver enables the user to connect to the transaction server via the Internet to access a program guide listing available media files. The user is then able to select a desired file and, via the player/receiver and Internet, request the transaction server to authorize download of the selected file. The file request along with file encryption and transfer instructions are sent from the transaction server via the Internet to the content provider site storing the requested file. Requested files are then dynamically encrypted by the content provider site and securely downloaded to the requesting player/receiver. The requesting player/receiver is uniquely capable of decrypting a downloaded file concurrent with playing back the file on a conventional home television set and/or audio system.

摘要： A conditional access system for controlling the access of receivers of end-users to data content transmitted from a data content source in an uplink system. The uplink system scrambles the content supplied from the content source, generates entitlement control messages containing a control word and an entitlement identification, and transmits the scrambled content and the entitlement control messages. A descrambler, an entitlement control message decoder and storage for recording entitlement identifications are associated to the receiver. The entitlement control message decoder supplies a control word to the descrambler for descrambling a part of the received scrambled content for which the receiver is entitled, if a match between the entitlement identification in the entitlement control message and the recorded entitlement identification exists. The content is subdivided into scenes having their own scene identification. The uplink system incorporates the scene identifications in the entitlement control messages.
