摘要: An entertainment service consists of program material which is encoded, supplied and stored in receivers for later retrieval at the convenience of a subscriber or user. A number of unique options are available and include a format for the presentation of audio/video commercials and other message materials without interfering with the delivery of the program materials within which the message materials are to be inserted. Message materials may be targeted at specific program subscriber groups and specific program categories. The entertainment materials are electronically supplied in a unique format of the program and message materials selectively interspersed with program break flags and message flags. The flags identify and provide preselected access to the materials previously determined by the subscriber's service. The program break flags indicate where message materials are to be inserted in the program material, and the message flags identify the specific message to be inserted as well as provide time related information. The subscriber may select program material at his or her convenience in non-real time from a menu corresponding to the subscribed services.

摘要: An information broadcasting system provides a large number of subscribers access to a large amount of information using one or more satellite transmission channels. The system can also use cable television transmission channels. A program supplier station stores an information database and tags all the information in the database with indices so as to form a single hierarchical structure which encompasses the entire information database. Portions of the information database are transmitted often, at least once per day, in order to provide the basic subscriber with information need to access the remainder of the database. The information provided by the basic subscriber service, which will typically include at least 50 gigabytes of data, is available to all subscribers without requiring two way communications between the subscribers and the program supplier station. Using a tiered system for scheduling transmission of the 50 gigabytes or so of information included in the basic subscriber service, as well as an intelligent subscriber request anticipation scheme for retrieving information before the subscriber asks for it, the present invention provides subscribers with reasonably quick access to all the contents of the large database while using only a modest amount of bandwidth. Furthermore, by reserving a portion of the system's bandwidth for satisfying requests for access to information not provided with the basic subscriber service, timely access to a virtually unlimited amount of information can be provided, using the same modest transmission bandwidth, to those subscribers willing to pay additional fees for that service.

摘要: The Automated Content Upload System networks a plurality of aircraft together when they are parked at the gates of an airport. Communications among the aircraft are guided by a Content Manager, resident at or near the airport, which maintains data representative of InFlight Entertainment Content presently stored on each aircraft and the list of scheduled InFlight Entertainment Content available on each aircraft. The Content Manager guides the exchange of InFlight Entertainment Content among the aircraft, as well as from the Content Manager to the aircraft, to automatically distribute InFlight Entertainment Content to the aircraft efficiently and timely. This process includes the ability to multicast data from the Content Manager to multiple aircraft in a single transmission, obtaining content delivery efficiency, populating multiple aircraft via a single transmission from the Content Manager. Furthermore, the Content Manager can supplement this process via transmissions to the aircraft in flight over the Air-To-Ground link.

摘要: A method, reception device and host device are provided for aligning data streams at a multi-source receiver. Portions of data for a plurality of data streams are received at a reception device, the plurality of data streams carrying respective content, wherein the content of each data stream is misaligned with at least one other data stream with respect to time. The portions of data are forwarded to a host device to be stored in respective delay buffers. Indexing information is maintained for each of the delay buffers. The portions of data are forwarded to the host device along with the indexing information.
