Provided are a fluorescent glass ceramic with high transparency and a preparation method and use thereof. The fluorescent glass ceramic includes the following raw materials by mass percentage: 63 wt % to 70 wt % of SiO2, 13 wt % to 16 wt % of Li2O, 1 wt % to 6 wt % of Al2O3, 1 wt % to 10 wt % of K2O, 2 wt % to 6 wt % of P2O5, 0.5 wt % to 3.5 wt % of CeO2, 0 wt % to 4 wt % of an additive, 1 wt % to 4 wt % of a lanthanide oxide with an atomic number of 59 to 71, and 0 wt % to 8 wt % of a colorant. The fluorescent glass ceramic has a lithium metasilicate crystal as a principal crystalline phase, and the lithium metasilicate crystal has a layered or plate-like structure and a grain size of 0.1 μm to 1.5 μm.

Compounds with varying colors, such as blue, can be made by varying A, Ma and Mb and their relative amounts. Compositions comprising the compounds and methods for making and using the same are also disclosed.

Composite materials that can be used to block radiation of a selected wavelength range or provide highly pure colors are disclosed. The materials include dispersions of particles that exhibit optical resonance behavior, resulting in the radiation absorption cross-sections that substantially exceed the particles' geometric cross-sections. The particles are preferably manufactured as uniform nanosize encapsulated spheres, and dispersed evenly within a carrier material. Either the inner core or the outer shell of the particles comprises a conducting material exhibiting plasmon (Froehlich) resonance in a desired spectral band. The large absorption cross-sections ensure that a relatively small volume of particles will render the composite material fully opaque (or nearly so) to incident radiation of the resonance wavelength, blocking harmful radiation or producing highly pure colors. The materials of the present invention can be used in manufacturing ink, paints, lotions, gels, films, textiles and other solids having desired color properties. The materials of the present invention can be used in systems consisting of reflecting substances such as paper or transparent support such as plastic or glass films. The particles can be further embedded in transparent plastic or glass beads to ensure a minimal distance between the particles.

Disclosed is a system of natural colors consisting of thousands of colored powders of mineral origin and of materials in or on which pigments have been applied and, afterwards, submitted to at least one thermal treatment and/or irradiation. These natural colors cover the totality of the visible spectrum and offer a great variety of tones, tints and reflections from white to black, including all the rainbow colors. The powders of this system are obtained by mechanical, chemical, thermal and/or physical processes and are used alone or in combination. They are particularly useful to color materials and, more especially those used in the construction and architectural fields.
