摘要:
This invention provides an anomalous dispersion glass exhibiting an .eta. d value of 1.54-1.71 and an.nu. d value of 55-30, and the anomaly of a partially dispersing property in the long wave length region. The anomalous dispersion glass contains B.sub.2 O.sub.3 45-70 mol.%; Pb0 5-30 mol.%; Na.sub.2 O 1-15 mol.%; SiO.sub.2 0-10 mol.%; Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 5-25 mol.%; one or more of CaO, BaO, MgO and CdO 0-16 mol.%, and one of TiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3, Wo.sub.3 and Tl.sub.2 O 0-3 mol.%. Fluorine may be present in an amount such that the F/O ion ratio in the resulting glass lies in the range of 0-0.35.

The glass tubulation of a gaseous discharge display device or similar device can be advantageously sealed to a glass substrate by using a preformed vitreous or devitrifiable solder glass annular member such as a washer which is placed over the tubulation and subjected to the normal solder glass sealing cycle to make the final seal.

A thorium oxide-free B.sub.2 O.sub.3 --La.sub.2 O.sub.3 --Gd.sub.2 O.sub.3 --Ta.sub.2 O.sub.5 system optical glass is improved in stability to devitrification and in optical constants by introducing at least one of a divalent metal oxide such as ZnO, CdO, PbO, BaO, SrO, CaO, and MgO into the optical glass composition or replacing Ta.sub.2 O.sub.5 of the optical glass composition with a divalent metal oxide. If desired, the glass may be free of CdO.

A laser assembly and a novel glass laser disc having an annular lead borate glass coating for use in the assembly is disclosed, the annular coating being capable of absorbing energy at a wavelength of 1.06 microns to thereby absorb parasitic oscillations. The outstanding glass coating has an index of refraction not substantially less than the index of refraction of the glass disc, the glass coating containing an effective energy-absorbing amount of a heavy metal oxide, such as Sm.sub.2 O.sub.3 and CuO, for absorbing energy at a wavelength of about 1.06 microns. The heavy metal oxides includes oxides of transition metals of the 3d, 4d, 4f and 5f orbital series.

The addition of small quantities of V2O5 to low-softening potassium/lead phosphate glasses improves their water resistance. The use of larger quantities of V2O5 may give crystal formation in the glass. Potassium may be replaced by other alkali metals. Glasses having the composition (moles percent) P2O5, 46-61; PbO, 12-32; alkali metal oxide, 15-21; V2O5, 1.2-1.5; Group 2 metal oxides (excluding mercury), 0-6 are disclosed.

A COMPOSITION FOR USE IN THICK FILM RESISTIVE ELEMENTS HAVING A LOW TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENT OF RESISTANCE IS PREPARED BY CODEPOSITING FROM AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION AT LEAST TWO PRECIOUS METALS ONE OF WHICH IS RUTHENIUM OR IRIDIUM ONTO LEAD-CONTAINING GLASS FRIT, OTHER METAL COMPONENTS MAY ALSO BE DEPOSITED ON THE GLASS FRIT; PREFIRING THE RESULTING GLASS FRIT AT A TEMPERATURE OF AT LEAST ABOUT 600* C., AND PREFERABLY BELOW THE MELTING POINT OF THE PRECIOUS METALS DEPOSITED THEREONF AND COMMINUTING THE PREFIRED GLASS FRIT TO A SIZE SUITABLE TO BE FORMULATED IN A RESISTOR PASTE TO PREPARE THICK FILM RESISTIVES. A PARTICULARLY ADVANTAGEOUS GLASS FRIT FOR APPLICATION IN THICK FILM RESISTIVES HAS DEPOSITED THEREON RUTHENIUM OR IRIDIUM, GOLD OR PLATINUM, AND RHODIUM. PREFERABLY, THE COMPOSITION IS ESSENTIALLY FREE OF SILVER.
