Abstract:
Methods and system for making and using vacuum switching devices are disclosed. A vacuum switching device has an operating rod for actuating a movable electrical contact within the device. The operating rod may be a hollow epoxy glass tube with an electrical sensor disposed within it, and there may be an elastomeric polymer filling compound disposed within the tube and encasing the sensor. The operating rod may be attached to the movable electrical contact on one end by a steel end-fitting that has been press-fit into the tube and secured with at least one cross pin. In this way, a very secure electromechanical connection may be made between the operating rod and the rest of the vacuum switching device, and the sensor is protected from shock associated with the operation of the device. Moreover, the vacuum switching device is compact and easy to construct.

Abstract:
A single pole cable connector includes an insulating sleeve defining a channel having at least a non-circular portion, and a non-circular contact positioned in the non-circular portion of the channel. The insulating sleeve may further include a non-circular, nonmetallic locking sleeve defining the non-circular portion of the channel. The channel and contact may be hexagonal-shaped in some embodiments. Single pole cable connector systems include male and female single pole cable connector of the present invention in mating engagement.
Abstract:
An electrical connector for connecting to an electrical apparatus within a high power circuit includes an electrical contact and an enclosure. The electrical contact is configured to connect to a bushing of an electrical apparatus within a high power circuit. The electrical contact extends along a first direction from a coupling region. The enclosure extends from the coupling region in a second direction that is nonparallel to the first direction. The enclosure includes two or more electrical devices, with each electrical device being connected to the electrical contact within the coupling region and providing a current path from the electrical apparatus to at least one external coupling device within the high power circuit.
Abstract:
A preventive maintenance tapping technique includes noting a tap position of a load tap changer and noting a duration that the tap position has been held. The duration that the tap position has been held is compared to a threshold value, and the tap position is changed if the tap position has been held for longer than the threshold value. Similarly, a duty cycle monitoring technique for monitoring life of load tap changer contacts includes detecting an arcing event. Arcing surfaces involved in the arcing event are identified and the effects of the arcing event on the arcing surfaces are calculated. Estimates of the erosion on the arcing surfaces are updated, and the estimates are compared to a threshold value. A signal for maintenance is generated when the estimate exceeds the threshold value.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a bracket for mounting an electrical box on a mounting bar device. The bracket has a central section having a channel-shaped recess. The bracket also has end sections at opposite ends of the central section. The end section have bar device openings that are generally aligned with the channel-shaped recess of the central section. The bar device openings and the channel-shaped recess are adapted to slidably receive the mounting bar device. The electrical box is secured to the central section of the bracket using a first fastener element. The bracket is secured to the mounting bar device using a second fastener element. The bracket may also be convertible for use in mounting an electrical box on a vertical mounting rod.
Abstract:
A lighting device includes a lighting device chassis and a handle extending of the top of the lighting device chassis. A lighting device mount extends from the bottom surface of the lighting device chassis. The mount is realeasably coupled to the device chassis stand. The stand is capable of supporting the lighting device chassis. The lighting device also includes a power cord having an activation device. The chassis stand includes a cord storage member. The power cord and activation device are storable about the cord storage member.
Abstract:
A jacket sleeve with grippable tabs provides protection to exposed portions of cable that are connected to an electrical connection. The jacket sleeve can be made as part of the electrical connector or may be connected subsequent to its creation through the use of glues or other adhesives. The jacket sleeve can be made of a material that is more pliable than the electrical connector, making it easier for a lineperson to place the sleeve over an exposed portion of cable. The jacket sleeve can include holes or slots either in the sleeve or in tabs that are attached to the sleeve. A lineperson can place one or more fingers into each hole or slot in order to get a better grip on the sleeve and pull the sleeve over the exposed portion of cable with less slippage and effort on the part of the lineperson.
