In one aspect, an example method for outputting an alert indicating a functional state of a back-up audio-broadcast system involves: a computing device receiving a first audio-stream that represents first audio-content; the computing device generating a first signature based, at least in part, upon an extent of single-channel/multi-channel transitions included within the first audio-content; the computing device receiving a second audio-stream that represents second audio-content; the computing device generating a second signature based, at least in part, upon an extent of single-channel/multi-channel transitions included within the second audio-content; the computing device making a determination that the generated first-signature and the generated second-signature lack a threshold extent of similarity; and responsive to the determination that the generated first-signature and the generated second-signature lack the threshold extent of similarity, the computing device outputting an alert.
Abstract:
Example methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture to collect metering information associated with media presented by portable and computer media presentation devices are disclosed. A disclosed example method accesses a first data structure including metering information generated by at least one of first media presentation software executed by a personal computer or second media presentation software executed by a portable media presentation device. The metering information is associated with media presented by at least one of the first or second media presentation software. At least some of the metering information is then extracted from the first data structure and stored in a second data structure. The at least some of the metering information is then communicated from the second data structure to a data collection facility.
Abstract:
Content segmentation, categorization and identification methods are described. Content tracking approaches are illustrated that are suitable for large scale deployment. Time-aligned applications such as multi-language selection, customized advertisements, second screen services and content monitoring applications can be economically deployed at large scales. A client performs fingerprinting, scene change detection, audio turn detection, and logo detection on incoming video and gathers database search results, logos and text to identify and segment video streams into content, promos, and commercials. A learning engine is configured to learn rules for optimal identification and segmentation at each client for each channel and program. Content sensed at the client site is tracked with reduced computation and applications are executed with timing precision. A user interface for time-aligned publishing of content and subsequent usage and interaction on one or more displays is also described.

A method for conducting search-by-content is provided. The method includes responsive to an input multimedia content item provided to a user device, checking if the input multimedia content item matches at least one concept of a plurality of concepts cached in the user device; retrieving characteristics set for a user of the user device; performing a search, using the at least one matching concept, for multimedia content items similar to the input multimedia content item; determining which of the search results are of interest to the user based on the characteristics set for the user; and saving results that are of interest to the user in the user device, wherein the saved results include multimedia content items.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to validate a tag for media are disclosed. An example method includes obtaining first identification information extracted from a tag distributed with media presented at a presentation location, obtaining second identification information determined from at least one of a) inherent information of at least one of audio or video of the media presented at the presentation location or b) a watermark embedded in at least one of the audio or the video of the media presented at the presentation, comparing the first identification information with the second identification information, and when first identification information does not substantially match the second identification information, preventing the tag from being used to report exposure of the media.

Example signature comparison methods disclosed herein include accessing a first set of values from a query signature based on a first index value, the first set of values determined based on a corresponding set of first angles between a first reference line and respective first lines tangent to first functions defined from first frequency band values determined for monitored audio. Disclosed example methods also include accessing a second set of values from a reference signature based on the first index value. Disclosed example methods further include computing a first correlation coefficient based on the first and second sets of values, and comparing a set of correlation coefficients including the first correlation coefficient to a threshold to determine whether the query and reference signatures match.
Abstract:
A computerized method for engaging a user of a mobile computer system. The mobile computer system may be connectible to a server over a wide area network. An audio signal of ambient audio is autonomously sampled in the vicinity of the mobile computer system to capture one or more audio samples of the audio signal. The multiple samples of the audio signal are autonomously sampled without requiring any interaction from the user, thus avoiding an input from the user to capture each of the samples. The audio sample may be processed to extract an audio signature of the audio sample. The audio signature may be compared with multiple previously stored reference audio signatures. Upon matching the audio signature with at least one reference audio signature a matched reference audio signature may be produced.

Methods and apparatus for research data gathering with a portable monitor and a stationary device are described. An example method includes gathering, via a stationary monitoring system, first data concerning exposure to media output by a media receiver, wherein gathering the first data comprises collecting a first code encoded in the media, gathering second data concerning exposure to the media output by the media receiver with a portable monitor carried on the person of a user, wherein the second data comprises a second code encoded in the media, gathering, via the portable monitor, location data encoded in the media by the stationary monitoring system, the location data providing information on a physical location of the portable monitor, and producing the audience measurement data concerning exposure to the media output by the receiver from the first data, the second data, and the location data.
Abstract:
A user (102) hears an audio program being broadcast and can record a sample of the audio. The sample is then conveyed to an analyzing means (106) to determine to which broadcast station the user is listening. The analyzing means monitors many broadcast channels. Thus, characteristics of the audio sample and samples taken from the broadcast channels can be compared to find a match. Broadcast information pertaining to the broadcast channel from which the match was found may then be reported back to the user, combined with an advertisement of a promotion, prize notification, discount offers, and other information specific for a certain radio station for example.
