The receiving station also includes a transmitter that sends the quantized antenna weight increment vector to the base station. The base station includes a beamformer selector that re-orthogonalizes the quantized antenna weight increment vector, and a weight vector modifier that calculates an antenna weight vector by adding an increment to the previous antenna weight vector proportional to the re-orthogonalized quantized antenna weight increment vector and renormalizes the antenna weight vector to unit length.

    摘要: In a jointly encoded (JE), spread spectrum communication MIMO system where a demultiplexed packet is transmitted over multiple streams, two versions of a single channel quality indicator (CQI) is disclosed: generalized SNR or constrained mutual information CMI between the transmitted and received chip vectors. In the receiver, the CMI is constrained so that filtering is suboptimal. The filter bank is preferably LMMSE or MVDR filters that convert the multi-path channel into a single path channel so that joint sequence detection is unnecessary. Detection is instead by a per-Walsh code architecture, wherein a plurality of Walsh-code specific detectors in parallel detect bits or symbols from the single-channel chips after downconverting chip to symbols. Link to system mapping is realizable using the disclosed CQI for a JE MIMO system in that the CQI or related information is returned to the transmitter, which adapts coding rate and/or modulation for the channel as represented by the CQI.

    摘要: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating selection of optimal antenna weightings by which to weight signals sent in a communication system that utilizes closed-loop transmit diversity. A deterministic perturbation gradient approximation technique is utilized in which perturbation vectors are selected by a selector and applied, by an applicator, to antenna weighting elements. A selected set of perturbation vectors are applied to the antenna weighting elements in both a positive direction and a negative direction. A detector at a receiving station measures in disassociated with the signals communicated thereto, once weighted with the perturbation vectors. A single-bit feedback value is returned to the sending station, and the antenna weightings are appropriately adjusted. The technique is utilized during both non-handoff conditions and during handoff conditions.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for neighbor discovery in a wireless communication system are disclosed. A neighbor seeking wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may send a first beacon based on configuration information provided by the network. The neighbor WTRUs receive the first beacon and may send either a report to the network or send a second beacon to the neighbor seeking WTRU. The network may then provide neighbor WTRU information to the neighbor seeking WTRU. The neighbor discovery may be performed within a pre-defined group of WTRUs that is formed based on proximity to the WTRU and/or an attribute of the WTRU. The neighbor discovery procedure may be performed to find neighbor WTRUs in case where a WTRU fails to find any network. A neighbor list may be generated by the neighbor seeking WTRU by measuring reference signals transmitted by neighbor WTRUs on an uplink to the network.

    摘要: A method for transmitting a packet of N input bits includes encoding all of the N bits as a single entity, such as with an interleaver of length N within a turbo coder, outputting M encoded bits, channel interleaving the M bits, splitting the M encoded bits into a parallel first and second portion, and transmitting them over separate channels to achieve spatial diversity. The size of the first and second portion is determined based on a closed feedback loop that provides some knowledge of the channel, preferably a measure of channel capacity. The feedback loop may also provide channel knowledge to a subpacket selector associated with each transmit antenna, which determines an appropriate rate for that channel and selects subpackets to fill a transmission packet for that channel. The subpacket selectors choose a subpacket of systematic bits and fill the remaining transmission packet size with subpackets of parity bits. Eigenvectors may be employed to transmit each transmission packet over more than one channel with a power disparity between the channels. A transmitter according to the present invention is also described.
