Abstract:
A plate spring is provided on a back surface of a shutter of a cartridge. When the shutter is closed, the plate spring presses a disk in a cartridge case against an inner wall surface of a lower case so that the disk is immovable in the case. When the shutter is open, the plate spring is retracted into a space between an inner surface of the shutter and a surface of an upper case. The disk is supported immovably and uniformly in the cartridge. Therefore, deformation such as warpage of the disk hardly occurs. Even when the cartridge is stored in any posture, it is possible to avoid deformation such as warpage and flexure of the disk in the cartridge during the storage.
Abstract:
A crankcase arrangement for an engine includes an improved construction that allows lubricant to more freely flow through the crankcase and to quickly return to a lubricant reservoir even though the engine has a compact construction. A cylinder body of an exemplifying engine includes at least an upper bearing portion, intermediate bearing portion and lower bearing portion. A crankcase member, which defines a crankcase cavity with the cylinder body, includes an upper bearing section and a lower bearing section. An upper main bearing journal of a crankshaft is rotatably journaled between the upper bearing portion and the upper bearing section and a lower main bearing journal of the crankshaft is rotatably journaled between the lower bearing portion and the lower bearing section. A bearing cap is arranged to rotatably journal the crankshaft with the intermediate bearing portion. In a preferred form, the bearing cap includes a plurality of cap sections that are joined together. Each cap section cooperates with a corresponding intermediate bearing portion of the cylinder body. Intermediate main bearings, which are formed by the cooperating cap sections and intermediate bearing portions, journal the crankshaft at a plurality of locations between the upper and lower main bearing journals of the crankshaft.
Abstract:
A magneto-optical information recording/reproducing apparatus in which a magneto-optical information recording medium at least including a first magnetic film having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, and a second magnetic film to which information recorded on the first magnetic film is transferred by irradiation of a laser beam, is used so that a readout laser beam is irradiated onto the second magnetic film to thereby readout the information transferred to the second magnetic film. The apparatus includes a 2-split detection circuit for receiving the readout laser beam reflected from the second magnetic film of the recording medium, and a subtraction circuit in which output signals of the two detection elements of the 2-split detection circuit are subtracted from each other to generate a differential signal. The apparatus further comprises a circuit for making a spot of the laser beam jump one track before readout of the information from the magneto-optical information recording medium, a positive/negative balance correction circuit for detecting an amplitude ratio between positive and negative side amplitudes in a track jump signal generated in the differential signal from the subtraction circuit in response to the track jump to thereby output a correction signal in accordance with the amplitude ratio, and an addition circuit for adding the correction signal to the differential signal to thereby generate a tracking error signal for tracking control used in readout of the magneto-optical information from the magneto-optical information recording medium.
Abstract:
An outboard motor having a multi-cylinder four-cycle, internal combustion engine as a power plant. An improved crankcase ventilating system is provided wherein the crankcase ventilating gases follow a circuitous path through the crankcase chamber, camshaft chambers and then to the intake system through an extended conduit passing over the exhaust manifold so as to reduce the emissions of hydrocarbons. The intake system is designed to preclude uneven distribution of the ventilating gases. The intake system also is comprised of a plenum device, a plurality of runners and throttle bodies and an intake manifold that are attached as a unit to the rest of the engine body. Portions of this unit are formed from a synthetic resin.
Abstract:
An outboard motor having a multi-cylinder four-cycle, internal combustion engine as a power plant. The engine is provided with an oil reservoir in the upper portion of the drive shaft housing and lower unit. Oil is drained back to this oil reservoir by separate drain passages formed in the cylinder head and in the crankcase. In addition, an improved crankcase ventilating system is provided wherein the crankcase ventilating gases follow a circuitous path through the crankcase chamber, camshaft chambers and then to the intake system so as to reduce the emissions of hydrocarbons.
Abstract:
An outboard motor cooling system wherein the coolant is circulated through the various cooling jackets so that it first flows into proximity with at least a portion of the exhaust system cooling jacket and then into the cooling jackets of the main engine body that cool the cylinder bore and combustion chamber. Sacrificial anodes are positioned both in the main engine body cooling jacket and in the exhaust system cooling jacket. In addition, a temperature sensor is positioned in a low portion of the cooling jacket and where the water has passed through the exhaust cooling jacket and before it enters the main engine body cooling jacket so as to provide accurate temperature indication while protecting the temperature sensor from excess temperature conditions particularly after engine shut off.
Abstract:
A cowling for an outboard motor of the type having a water propulsion device powered by an internal combustion engine positioned within an engine compartment defined by the cowling, is disclosed. The cowling has at least one intake vent positioned therein and includes an engine cover which defines an isolated intake air path from the vent across a top end of the engine to an engine air intake. The cover also defines a chamber in which a flywheel rotated by the crankshaft at the top end of the engine is positioned. The chamber has an inlet in communication with the engine compartment, and an outlet leading to an exhaust passage. The exhaust passage leads to an exhaust vent in the cowling.
Abstract:
A coolant system for a vertically oriented engine of an outboard motor is disclosed. Coolant flows through the coolant system from a coolant pump into a coolant jacket surrounding an exhaust manifold of the engine, down to a bottom of a cylinder head of the engine, through the cylinder head an engine block, through a thermostat, and then to a jacket positioned along an exhaust pipe leading from the exhaust manifold, to a coolant discharge.
Abstract:
A method of detecting deficiency of an aperture used in a charged-particle-beam exposure process employing at least two exposure columns is disclosed, where each of the two exposure columns passes a charged-particle beam through the aperture formed through a mask to shape a cross section of the charged-particle beam before exposing the charged-particle beam onto an object. The method includes the steps of mounting masks having the same aperture to the at least two exposure columns; scanning, in each of the at least two exposure columns, the charged-particle beam over an area containing a mark on a surface substantially at the same height as the object after passing the charged-particle beam through the same aperture; obtaining, in each of the at least two exposure columns, a signal waveform corresponding to the scan by detecting charged particles scattered by the mark; and comparing the signal waveform between the at least two exposure columns.
