Abstract:
An apparatus and method for automatedly detecting the presence of one or more chemical contaminants, such as 2,4,6-trichloroanisole, in/on a plurality of cork wine bottle stoppers in rapid succession using electronic nose chips. The apparatus moves the nose chips and the cork stoppers independently to align the cork stopper and a corresponding electronic nose chip with one another for testing. The automated apparatus and method provides a low-cost, reliable process for testing 100% of cork wine bottle stoppers in a fast and cost-effective manner.
Abstract:
A First Responder Communications System (FRCS), also referred to as an Automated Incident Control System, is provided that supports inter-agency and intra-agency communications among first responders including fire, police, border patrol, emergency medical service, safety, and/or other agencies. The FRCS also increases situational awareness of personnel by automatically providing position information as well as other sensor information. The FRCS also provides position and time information via Global Positioning System (GPS) and/or other positioning systems, and data from deployed and/or personal sensors to provide enhanced communications, command and control capabilities to the first responders and incident command. The FRCS includes a heads up display (HUD) including one or more LEDs or LCDs and a signal receiver that attaches to a faceshield or windshield (shield) to receive/display instructions via an electromagnetic or sonic signal via a transmitter coupled to a computer or other source.
Abstract:
This invention recognizes the hazards of beryllium and beryllium oxide in automotive applications and offers alternative material solutions. In particular, commercial electrochromic mirrors use beryllium comprising alloys for busbars and may also use beryllium oxide for the electronics used to power and control these mirrors. Further, this can be combined by reducing other known hazards such as mercury, cadmium, lead and antimony compounds.

Abstract:
A method of using wastewater sludge in the production of concrete comprising mixing cement, aggregate and wastewater sludge to form a concrete mix in which the additional step is carried out of mixing the wastewater sludge with an alkaline solution to achieve a wastewater sludge and alkaline solution mixture having a pH equal to or in excess of 11.5 prior to mixing with the aggregate and cement. Such a method is a simple and efficient method of producing ready usable concrete and will not require expensive sterilisation steps such as heat or radiation treatment. The wastewater sludge is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner and will not undergo incineration or have to be dumped at sea or landfill.
Abstract:
A First Responder Communications System (FRCS), also referred to as an Automated Incident Control System, is provided that supports inter-agency and intra-agency communications among first responders including fire, police, border patrol, emergency medical service, safety, and/or other agencies. The FRCS also supports communication among multiple on-scene agencies and various command and control personnel and increases situational awareness by automatically providing position information as well as other sensor information. Components of the FRCS integrate multiple communications channels including High Frequency (HF), Very High Frequency (VHF), Ultra High Frequency (UHF)/microwave, cellular, satellite, and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The FRCS also provides position and time information via Global Positioning System (GPS) and/or other positioning systems, and data from deployed and/or personal sensors to provide enhanced communications, command and control capabilities to the first responders and incident command.
Abstract:
A method and system for recording and tracking the progress of a plurality of inventions through an Invention Method including IP Mapping, IP Strategy, IP Generation, IP Documentation, IP Review Board, and IP Patenting or Provisional Filing, utilizing a Database platform comprising a plurality of tables, view screens, and reports that characterize the flow of an invention from one method through to the next, from the time an invention is identified until it is patented, and even beyond issuance, or until some other disposition of the invention is made.
Abstract:
The invention features an apparatus for delivering mechanical energy to skin, wherein the apparatus includes: (a) a user output assembly, the user output assembly including: (i) a skin-contactable element having a skin contactable surface; (ii) a motor; and (iii) a transfer member for transferring energy from the motor to the skin-contactable element a transfer member for transferring energy from the motor to the skin-contactable element; (b) a receiving element adapted to receive user-attribute data that is provided to the apparatus by a user; and (c) a controller coupled to the receiving element and the user output assembly, wherein the controller provides action instructions to the user output assembly based upon the user-attribute data received by the receiving element.
Abstract:
A shallow trench isolation (STI) structure (170, 300), formed in a silicon substrate (110) for use in sub-micron integrated circuit devices, for providing enhanced absorption of a wavelength of laser light during laser annealing. The STI structure includes a shallow trench (140) having a depth of 0.5 &mgr;m or less etched in the silicon substrate, and an optical blocking member (174, 304) that includes an insulator (144, 224) formed in the shallow trench and designed to reflect or absorb the wavelength of laser light to mitigate redistribution of the dopant and/or recrystallization of a portion of the silicon substrate. Methods of forming the optical blocking member are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A hybrid solar/wind turbine apparatus, which includes a blade and shelf assembly configured to provide wind impulsion and wind capture. The blade and shelf assembly are located between an upper and a lower platform assembly. The blade assembly is helically disposed about an axis, for generating torque. A transmission shaft is in communication with the blade assembly and configured to receive the generated torque. One or more photovoltaic cells are in communication with the blade assembly for photovoltaic energy generation, either alone or in combination, with the torque. A means to integrate and combine the photovoltaic energy generating photovoltaic cells into the wind capturing blade assembly.
