摘要: An apparatus for regulating the functioning of a patient's organ or duct includes an elongated member having a first end and a second end. A fastener is disposed on the first end of the elongated member. The fastener is configured to engage the second end of the elongated member so that the elongated member forms a loop around the organ or duct. A tension element is disposed for movement within the elongated member. A drive element is associated with and engages the tension element for causing the tension element to control the tension applied by the elongated member against a patient's body organ or duct. A tension release mechanism is associated with the tension element.

摘要: An apparatus for regulating the functioning of a patient's organ or duct includes an elongated member having a first end and a second end. The elongated member has a compressible ventral surface and a substantially rigid dorsal periphery, wherein the elongated member includes a fluid bladder positioned along the ventral surface. A fastener is disposed on the first end of the elongated member. The fastener is configured to engage the second end of the elongated member so that the elongated member forms a loop around the organ or duct. A tension element is disposed for movement within the elongated member. A drive element is associated with and engages the tension element for causing the tension element to control the tension applied by the elongated member against a patient's body organ or duct. Alternate embodiments are also disclosed.

摘要: Methods and devices for optimizing the operation of a restriction system for forming a restriction in a patient are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, a method for optimizing the operation of a gastric restriction system includes providing an implantable restriction system for forming a restriction in a patient, determining an optimum value of a control parameter of the restriction system, and maintaining the control parameter at the optimum value such that a result parameter of the restriction system is substantially convergent as a function of time. Determining an optimum value of a control parameter can generally include adjusting the restriction device, determining the value of the control parameter to be optimized, and repeating the steps of adjusting the restriction device and determining the value of the control parameter until the control parameter is substantially convergent as a function of time.

摘要: A pressure sensor may be used to determine the pressure of fluid within an implantable gastric restriction device. An accelerometer may be used to measure movement of the patient in which the gastric restriction device is implanted, such that the movement may be accounted for when evaluating data from the pressure sensing system. For instance, movement data from the accelerometer may be used to identify pressure data that should be ignored. A display may annotate a pressure graph to show changes in pressure associated with patient movement; or may otherwise influence the display of pressure data based on patient movement. The pressure sensor and accelerometer may be incorporated into an adapter placed between a syringe and needle that are used to adjust the fluid pressure in the gastric restriction device. Upon examination of pressure data in relation to movement data, the implantable gastric restriction may be adjusted as needed.

摘要: A surgical instrument operable to sever tissue includes a body assembly and a selectively coupleable end effector assembly. The end effector assembly may include a transmission assembly and an end effector. The body assembly includes a trigger and a casing having a distal aperture configured to receive a portion of the end effector assembly. First and second coupling mechanism portions cooperatively couple the end effector assembly to the body assembly for use. A cartridge positionable between the instrument and a generator includes information regarding operating parameters unique to the selectively coupleable end effector assembly and/or the desired surgical procedure, such as information regarding setting a maximum current set point within an ultrasonic transducer. The instrument is programmable with operating parameter information while within a sealed and sterilized packaging unit.

The end effector assembly may include a transmission assembly and an end effector. The body assembly includes a trigger and a casing configured to couple with the transmission assembly. An information transmission system transmits instrument information received from a sensor, for example, to a secure server via a secure gateway connected to the instrument. The instrument may be previously tested on a calibration kit to pre-determine and load surgeon-specific settings onto the instrument prior to use.

摘要: A surgically implantable injection port has one or more tissue in-growth promoting surfaces. The injection port includes a housing, a fluid reservoir defined in part by the housing, a needle penetrable septum, and a tissue in-growth promoting surface integrally provided on an exterior surface of the port. The tissue in-growth promoting surface may be provided by surgical mesh or a textured surface on the injection port. The injection port may be used as part of a gastric band system or some other type of system.
