    摘要: A medical device including an implant and inserter and a method for using the same. One embodiment includes an implant for implantation within a patient, and a first inserter for inserting the implant. The first inserter has a distal end region including a tissue penetrating distal tip, a proximal end region, a capture element located at the distal end region, and an implant holding element having a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end is removably received within the capture element, and the implant holding element further is movably coupled to the first inserter at a first location proximal of the capture element. The implant holding element extends from the first location at which it is movably coupled to the first inserter, and subsequently through the implant before being removably received within the capture element to thereby removably secure the implant to the insertion device.

    摘要: A water swellable and hydrolytically labile (and therefore potentially biodegradable) non-toxic crosslinked polysaccharide in microsphere or bead form. The crosslinked polysaccharide comprises polysaccharide chains and crosslinking groups which are imidocarbonate groups, carbonate groups or a mixture thereof. The microspheres are predominantly in the range of about 1 micron to about 100 microns in diameter, preferably about 2-50 microns. The crosslinked polysaccharide polymer, which is preferably a crosslinked dextran, is formed by treating a water soluble non-crosslinked polysaccharide with a cyanogen halide (preferably cyanogen bromide) in an aqueous alkaline medium which is the disperse phase of a water-in-oil dispersion. The microspheres are useful in the treatment of wounds, in particular as an absorptive agent for wound exudates. The microspheres may be formed into a wound dressing which includes a blend of the microspheres and a hydrophobic adhesive matrix material on a waterproof backing sheet.

    摘要: Crosslinked hydrogel polymers are made by reacting a disubstituted aliphatic diamine of the general formula (I) or (XI) as given in the specification, with one or more diepoxides having the general formula (II), also as given in the specification, and subjecting the resulting non-crosslinked polymer having repeating units of the formula III or XIII to crosslinking conditions to produce the desired crosslinked hydrogel polymer. Hydrogel polymers thus produced are highly hydrophilic with a high degree of water uptake and a high equilibrium water content. In addition, these hydrogel polymers are highly absorptive of fluids and are adhesive when applied to dry surfaces but not when applied to wet surfaces. The hydrogel polymers are useful in wound dressings.

    摘要: An electric bass guitar incorporating combination string-adjustment, fine-tuning, and bridge-elements. The bridge-elements are accurately adjustable to any position, and are so constructed and related that the lateral positions of the strings will be determined with great precision, regardless of the adjusted position of the saddles. Fine-tuning screws are interposed between the saddles and an anchor wall which both anchors the strings and anchors the ends of adjustment elements for the saddles. The strings are confined closely in vertical slots so that they may not move laterally but may move vertically as fine-tuning occurs. The fine-tuning screws engage the string portions in the slots.

    摘要: An improved tablet hardness tester includes a ram and anvil for fracturing a tablet therebetween, a support for holding a tablet in position for fracturing between the ram and anvil, a strain gauge for measuring the force exerted by the ram in fracturing the tablet, and an indicator for indicating the measured force. The support according to the invention is a plurality of spaced-apart elongated member, preferably a pair of parallel wires. A tablet is placed on these wires and then crushed by the ram and anvil so that the pieces of the broken tablet fall beneath the wires into a container, thus eliminating the need for cleaning the support prior to a subsequent tablet hardness measurement.

    摘要: The present invention relates to liquid entrapping devices (e.g., absorbent non-woven fibrous mats) and to a process for preparing such devices. More particularly, the present invention relates to mechanically strong absorbent materials made from such liquid entrapping devices (e.g., non-woven fibrous mats) and to a method for preparing same. In one embodiment, a liquid entrapping device of the present invention comprises at least one hydrophilic elastomeric fibrous component (HEFC) and at least one wetting agent component. In another embodiment, a liquid entrapping device of the present invention comprise at least one hydrophilic elastomeric fibrous component (HEFC), at least one absorbent component, and at least one wetting agent component. In one instance, the wetting agent component of the present invention is contained on and/or within the fibers and/or nanofibers that form the liquid entrapping device (e.g., a non-woven fibrous mat) of the present invention.
