A paper splicing method for a printing press and a reel stand unit that prevents misregistration at a paper-splicing section in the top-to-bottom direction and that enables improvement of printing quality and stable printing are provided. Provided is a printing press including a reel stand unit configured to bond a web fed out from an old reel to a new reel and continuously feed paper by splicing paper from the old reel to the new reel, wherein the distance in the length direction of an overlapping section of the old reel and the new reel spliced by the reel stand unit is smaller than the minimum distance between driving rollers provided in the printing press. The driving rollers are, in particular, the distance between a printing unit and a blanket cylinder.

A printing press operating method and a printing press capable of quickly stabilizing the tension of webs and improving cost effectiveness by reducing the amount of wasted paper are provided. An operating method of a printing press that is provided with a plurality of rollers on a web path, that conveys the web with these rollers, and that prints on the web with printing cylinders includes carrying out a tension-application operation for increasing the tension of the web while at least one of the rollers affecting the tension on the web, among the rollers provided on the web path, is set to an attached state with respect to the web and printing cylinders are set to a detached state, and then after this operation, accelerating the web to a printable state. In this way the tension of the web quickly stabilizes, and the amount of wasted paper can be reduced.

An optical pickup device comprises a light emitting element which emits laser light, a photodetector which monitors a state of the laser light emitted from the light emitting element and applies feedback to a control of the light emitting element, and a reflect mirror which allows a portion of the laser light emitted from the light emitting element to be irradiated to the photodetector, wherein a rough surface portion is provided on a surface of the reflect mirror to avoid an erroneous operation of the optical pickup device.

A system consisting of a plurality of terminals storing image data and an image displaying device which are connected with each other through a network capable of two-way communication has the disadvantage of decreasing in throughput on account of slow image data transfer over the network. The image displaying device performs two-way communications with each of the terminals by a communication means at the display device side. Also, the image displaying device acquires image data from a relevant terminal while instructing other terminals to suspend transmission by the image data acquisition controlling means, thereby suspending transmission of image data. The image displaying device displays images by the image displaying means based on the thus acquired image data.

There has been a problem of necessitating a complicated work for establishing a connection capable of intercommunication between a computer as server and a projector as client.When a connection is established between a server 20 and projectors 301 through 30n, a communication command is issued according to UDP-based broadcasting to retrieve connectable projectors 301 through 303. Thereafter, the projector 301 to be connected is selected and is assigned an IP address to establish the connection. In this manner, a user can easily obtain a connection environment capable of intercommunication between the server 20 and the projector 301. A TCP/IP communication command is used to input or output image data, ensuring reliable transmission. Since the authentication can be provided using a keyword projected during the connection establishment, it is possible to prevent an unauthorized access to the projector 301 by an outsider.

A source coil drive circuit section of an endoscope shape detection device includes, an oscillator that generates a sine wave and an amplifier that amplifies the sine wave and generates (drives) an alternating magnetic field to source coils through a switch section. The switch section is configured to switch a direct current to an output of the amplifier and supply to the source coils. In the source coil drive circuit section, a direct current resistance value detection section for measuring a direct current resistance value of the source coils by voltage drop when the switch section is supplying the direct current to the source coils is provided.

The electrical connecting apparatus according to the present invention includes first, second and third plate members having plate-like portions at intervals from each other in the thickness direction, each plate-like member having a plurality of through holes in the plate-like portions; and a plurality of probes having projected portions passed through the through holes of the first, second and third plate-like members, the probes including projected portions between said first and second plate-like members. Each through hole of the first and second plate-like members has a small diameter portion for preventing the projected portion of the probe from passing and a large diameter portion communicated to the small diameter portion.

The functional element comprises a substrate having on an upper surface thereof a plurality of metal oxide needles extending upwardly of the upper surface of the substrate, with their respective central axes arranged substantially in parallel with each other, wherein the needles have a specific average circle-based diameter and a specific average aspect ratio, and wherein the needles are present at a specific density at the upper surface of the substrate. Also disclosed is a method for producing the functional element, which comprises gasifying a metal compound having the capability to react with an oxide-forming substance to form a metal oxide, to thereby obtain a metal compound gas, and applying the obtained metal compound gas onto a surface of a substrate which is placed in a reaction zone containing the oxide-forming substance and which is heated to a temperature higher than the temperature of the metal compound gas.
