摘要: A phase change driven actuation device comprises an elongate combustion tube having: an inlet section, including an inlet for combustible material; an extinguishing section; and an ignition section, including an igniter displaced along a length of the tube from the inlet section to ignite the combustible material. A fluid is disposed adjacent an exterior surface of the elongate combustion tube and is configured to be heated by heat created by combustion of the combustible material and to at least partially undergo a phase change from a liquid state to a gaseous state upon combustion of the combustible material. At least one energy extraction device is in communication with the fluid to extract energy created by the phase change of the fluid.

摘要: The present invention includes systems, methods, and apparatus configured to close an internal tissue opening, such as an internal tissue opening cased by an atrial septal defect including a patent foramen ovale defect, ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arterosus defect, or the like. For example, a closure device includes a right anchor cooperatively coupled with a left anchor, where the right anchor and left anchor are configured to be positioned about the internal tissue opening. The left and/or right anchor are configured to close the internal tissue opening in one instance, and to provide tissue stimulating or growth-encouraging substances at the tissue opening. Additional aspects of the invention relate to shape, formation, positioning, and detachment of the closure device about the internal tissue opening.

摘要: A catheter guidewire includes an elongate solid body about which a catheter may be threaded for guidance to a target location in a vasculature passageway of a body. The elongate body includes a proximal end and a distal end, with the distal end being curved. Cuts are formed either by saw-cutting, laser cutting or etching at spaced-apart locations along the length of the body to increase its lateral flexibility. Integral beams are also formed within the body to maintain its torsional strength. The relative location and size of cuts and beams may be selectively adjusted so as to control the direction and degree of flexure, and the change in torsional stiffness relative to flexibility.

摘要: A joint for furniture uses alternating tabs and slots formed along an edge of first and second furniture panels. The panels are joined together so that tabs in the first panel are disposed in slots in the second panel and tabs in the second panel are disposed in slots in the first panel. This arrangement causes the slots to flex outwardly and the tabs to flex inwardly once assembled and creates residual stress in the assembled joint which stiffens the joint.

摘要: A modular shelving unit includes a plurality of shelves supported by supports. Non-linear attachment pins are attached to the top of a lower shelf and received in upper supports which support an upper shelf. The attachment pins are bent so that they are wider than holes in the upper supports; bending the attachment pins elastically and maintaining them elastically bent when the shelving unit is in an assembled state.
