The integrated semiconductor light-emitting device has a first laser part stacked on a semiconductor substrate and a projection-shaped second laser part formed by stack in thin-film-layer form. The second laser part is fitted into a trench formed adjacent to the first laser part in the semiconductor substrate. At least the first and second laser parts and the trench are bonded together through a metal bonding layer. An emission spot of the first laser part and an emission spot of the second laser part are located away in approximately the same horizontal direction perpendicular to the direction of the stack of the first and second laser parts.

The wavelength converting device includes: a substrate comprising MgO; a waveguide membrane comprising KNbO.sub.3, for guiding the light; a buffer membrane which is disposed between the substrate and the waveguide membrane and which comprises KTa.sub.x Nb.sub.(1-x) O.sub.3. A mixing rate of Ta in the KTa.sub.x Nb.sub.(1-x) O.sub.3 in the buffer membrane is in a range of 40 atom % to 60 atom % at a surface of the buffer membrane touching the substrate, and is 0 atom % at a surface of the buffer membrane touching the waveguide membrane.

This recording medium ensures that information is recorded with high density. A playing apparatus for an optical waveguide recording medium includes a light emitting means for generating a light beam with a modulated wavelength, an irradiating means for guiding the light beam to the photocoupler, a photodetecting means for performing photoelectric conversion of the light beam to provide an electric output, and a light-receiving means for guiding reflected signal light, reflected for each wavelength at the refractive index-discontinuous portions, subjected to amplitude and phase modulations, and returning via the photocoupler, to a light-receiving section of the photodetecting means.

An optical pickup using a fiber type SHG, an optical information recording carrier and an information recording and reproducing apparatus. In the optical pickup, the primary ray which was removed in conventional arrangements is utilized thereby the same pickup can be used not only for an optical disk of a high density but also for an optical disk of a usual record density. To raise the recording density of the information recording carrier the laminated structure is utilized to record information. Two rays having different wavelengths are directed onto the record layer and onto the recordable layer of the optical disk, and the information recording and reproducing apparatus performs the reproducing of information as well as error detection and record/reproduction of information, so that a novel reproduction mode is realized.
