Abstract:
Inline liquid drug medical devices for use with a source of physiological fluid and a medicinal vessel for liquid drug reconstitution and administration purposes. The inline liquid drug medical devices include a housing having a longitudinal device axis, a rotary flow control member and a vial adapter for transposing the flow control member from an initial first flow control position for liquid drug reconstitution purposes to a second flow control position for liquid drug administration purposes. The inline liquid drug medical devices include a syringe port and a drug dispensing port co-axial with the device axis. The rotary flow control member is rotatable about an axis of rotation co-axial with the syringe port and the drug dispensing port.

A fluid transfer assembly including a vented female vial adapter and male vial adapter for use with a pair of vials including a vial with contents under negative pressure for liquid drug reconstitution and administration purposes. The vented female vial adapter includes a venting arrangement and the male vial adapter includes a sealing arrangement for selectively sealing the venting arrangement. The fluid transfer assembly is designed such that only filtered air is drawn into the vial under negative pressure subsequent to reconstitution of liquid drug contents to ensure sterile conditions.

Liquid drug transfer devices including a vented vial adapter having a top wall, a downward depending skirt, and a dual lumen puncturing spike. The top wall includes vent apertures in flow communication with an underlying air filter and protective hoods for covering the vent apertures from splashes. The hood-like hoods are preferably quarter sphere shaped with hood apertures facing radial outwards.

A needle assembly adapted for fluid communication with a vial containing a substance to be delivered to a subject, the needle assembly including a needle held in a needle holder, the needle holder confined to move in a housing, and an activation mechanism for activating delivery of the substance through the needle, the activation mechanism including a safety latch that initially impedes movement of the needle holder, wherein when the safety latch is placed on the subject, the safety latch moves to a position that permits moving the needle holder to cause the needle to protrude outwards of the housing to pierce the subject to allow administration of the substance to the subject, characterized by a biasing device arranged to apply a biasing force on the needle to cause the needle to protrude outwards of the housing to pierce the subject, and needle release apparatus including a needle arrestor that initially blocks movement of the biasing device and which releases the biasing device when the safety latch moves to the position that permits moving the needle holder to cause the needle to protrude outwards of the housing.

Vial assemblages having a vial and a pre-attached fluid transfer device for use with a needleless syringe for enabling flow communication between the syringe and the vial. The fluid transfer device includes an elongated tubular flow member having a connector for sealing flow communication with the needleless syringe and a spike having a spike end for puncturing the vial for enabling flow communication between the needleless syringe and vial interior. The spike end is in intimate sealing contact with the vial's stopper. The fluid transfer device also includes a manually removable closure for initially sealing the connector and, on removal, exposing the connector.

The vial adapters include at least two non-adjacent vial retention flex members for snap fitting over a vial opening for vial retention purposes and at least two non-adjacent vial guidance flex members longer than their counterpart vial retention flex members for guiding a vial adapter with respect to a vial prior to snap fitting the vial adapter thereon.
