A method for producing thin slabs whereby the cross-section thereof is reduced during solidification in a continuous casting device wherein the strand guide adjacent to the mold includes wedge-shaped adjustable roller-strand sections for regulating the thickness of the strand or the thin slabs. The thickness of the strand is reduced only on one point of the strand guide below the first segment downstream from the mold in an area of the strand containing a liquid core by regulating the strand guide rollers with a soft transition. The segment following the segment situated directly after the mold comprises a pivoting point on the input side and an adjusting means arranged on the output side.

A refractory pouring spout and channel unit for the arrangement on the outlet of a tundish of a strip casting installation has at least one vertical, refractory pouring spout and channel part (25) which can be connected to the tundish; and a refractory pouring spout and channel part (25′) which originates from said vertical part, which extends horizontally and which is provided with one or more openings that are distributed over its length. This results in almost constant laminar flow conditions for the melt flowing between the casting rollers.

The invention concerns a device for winding/unwinding metal strips, in particular for steel bands, comprising a mandrel (4) mounted mobile in rotation in a bearing (4a), and serves to provide means for pivoting, seizing, centering and suppoting the mandrel (4) of the winding/unwinding device. Therefor, the invention is characterized in that the bearing of the mandrel (4) is enclosed, on the outer ring (6) of the bearing, in an annular slot (7), and said outer ring (6) can be centered by means of a fixing element (8) capable of being closed inwards when the mandrel (4) is inserted, or can be freely mobile inside said annular slot (7) when the fixing elements (8) are returned outwards.

The invention relates to a method and a device for treating surfaces of metallic strip material (1), especially for pickling rolled material, in a treatment channel (2), with a pickling medium (3) containing acid. Jets (4) are set in the direction in which the strip is transported (5) at the entrance to the channel (2a) and in the opposite direction that in which the strip is transported at the exit of the channel (2b). The aim of the invention is to produce a closed liquid film with some turbulence on the surface of the strip. Said film should be maintained as far as the exit (2b) of the channel. To this end, additional jets (4) between the channel entrance (2a) and the channel exit (2b) are oriented in the opposite direction to the direction in which the strip is transported (5) and the pickling medium (3) is further delayed in flowing out at the channel exit (2b) by mechanical resistance devices (7) situated in the path of the transport channel (6).

A device for the continuous casting of metals, especially steel material, to elongated products in a multistrand casting apparatus with a plurality of continuous casting molds which are oscillatingly driven in an oscillating frame (2) by means of leaf springs (4) whereby the leaf springs (4) extend transversely to the casting direction (1) and serve for guide and weight compensation. The smallest possible strand spacing “A” is provided for that on a longitudinal foundation frame (5) to housings (6a) in the form of compact flat cassettes (6) are secured one behind the other in the strand travel direction. In the housings upper and lower leaf spring pairs (4a; 4b) run transversely to the cast strands (3) and the oscillating strands (11) engage the leaf spring pairs (4a; 4b), whereby a front oscillating drive (11a) works synchronously with the rear oscillating drive (11b).

A guide device on a vertical roll rolling mill frame (WG) which has vertical guide plates (FP) for the rolled product on both sides of the vertical roll pair (VW) above the rollers (RR) of the roller conveyor for feeding the rolled product 2 and removing the rolled product from the roll and on a carrier (TR) for each vertical guide plate (FP), shiftable transversely to the rolling direction, adjustable and lockable. The carrier (TR) of each guide plate (FP) is connected on its back side with the linear positioning member of a mechanically or hydraulically driven shifting device which is fixed on the bearing body (LK) of the vertical roll. The carrier (TR) is cantilevered slidably above the roller conveyer and parallel to its roller axed in a cantilevered kulisse (FK) which is fixedly connected with the rolling mill frame.

A method of production of broad side plates for thin slab continuous casting molds with casting speeds of at least 2 to 6 m/min and higher includes producing of a hardenable copper allow containing by weight, 1% to 0.5% beryllium, 0.5% to 2% nickel which, together with a copper component, amount to at least 99.5%, and maximum 0.5% of impurities; and forming the broad side plates of the hardenable copper alloy.

The invention relates to a method and a device for changing pairs of working rolls (2) and/or pairs of back-up rolls (3) on roll stands (1), wherein a linear drive (7) for chocks (4) that are guided in supporting planes, in a direction perpendicular to the rolling direction, induces the pair of working rolls (2) mounted in the chocks (4) to withdraw or insert, and wherein a linear drive (7) withdraws or extends the pair of back-up rolls that is supported on a roll changing frame (11). In order to save time and effort, the pair of working rolls (2), after coupling to the linear drive (7) is extended and decoupled, and the same linear drive (7) is coupled to a roll changing frame (11) that is withdrawn between the back-up rolls (3a, 3b) and, when the roll changing frame (11) and the upper back-up roll (3a) are supported on the lower back-up roll (3b), is extended or withdrawn as a single unit.

The invention relates to a method and a device for the continuous casting of slabs or ingots, in particular of thin slabs in a continuous casting installation. Said installation comprises a soft reduction section in a continuous casting guide under the mould. The soft reduction section contains pressure rollers and support roller (3, 4), which are continuously restrained in relation to one another, either individually or as a segment (1), by means of hydraulic cylinders (7, 7′) and are restrained in a limiting manner by stops (30). The installation uses a hard-pressure restraining force in an area of the soft reduction section that has not yet completely solidified and a soft-pressure restraining force in an area of the soft reduction section that has completely solidified. Threshold and changeover values for the hard and soft-pressure are defined in the segment is restrained using hard-pressure, such a way that if the restraining force lies below the threshold or changeover value, and if the restraining force lies above the threshold or changeover value the segment is restrained using soft-pressure.
