Abstract:
Opportunistic image quality improvement in a digital camera. In a digital camera having a picture memory of fixed size for storing a predetermined number of pictures, raw image data is compressed to form primary and auxiliary data sets. The primary data set allows the image to be reconstructed at a first quality level. The primary and auxiliary data sets combined allow the reconstruction of the image at a higher quality level. As images are taken and processed, if sufficient storage space exists in the picture memory, both primary and auxiliary data sets are stored. This continues until the memory is full of primary and auxiliary data sets. Once the memory is full, as more images are taken and stored, the space used by auxiliary data sets is reclaimed for use by primary data sets, and the auxiliary data sets are not stored.
Abstract:
A system and method for automatically determine whether an image captured by a digital camera should be stored in a raw format or a compressed format. After an image is captured by the digital camera, the digital camera checks certain sets of characteristics of the captured image to check the image quality. If the image quality falls within an acceptable range, then the digital camera saves the image in a compressed format. If the captured image does not fall within predetermined quality levels, then the captured image is save in raw format for later processing.
Abstract:
A desired area, a desired resolution of the desired area, and a desired reduction ratio of an area other than the desired area are specified. An image data of the desired area is extracted from an image data of a document read at the desired resolution. A changed image data is created by changing the image data of the document based on the desired reduction ratio. The image data of the desired area and the changed image data are subjected to multi-page filing and saved as one file.
Abstract:
A recording medium which records thereon moving pictures encoded by a first encoding method, first pictures corresponding to the moving pictures and which have pixels smaller than the moving pictures, still pictures encoded by a second encoding method, and second pictures corresponding to the still pictures and which have pixels smaller than the still pictures.
Abstract:
The invention provides a mode switching method in a digital image acquisition apparatus with a first button for taking pictures and a second button for mode switching. Snapshot modes and a viewing mode are provided. A snapshot parameter is for recording whether the apparatus is currently used for taking pictures. Each time when the apparatus is used for taking pictures via the first button, the snapshot parameter is recorded as a snapshot status. A mode parameter is for recording which mode the apparatus is currently situated. Each time when the apparatus is used for mode switching via the second button, the mode parameter is recorded as a corresponding mode status. When the apparatus performs mode switching via the second button, if the snapshot parameter is at the same time recorded as the snapshot status, the apparatus is switched directly to the viewing mode in irrespective to its original snapshot mode.
Abstract:
To provide an image processing technique compatible with both a CCD and a CIS, which controls storage of image data read by each device in a memory and the read of the stored data for each rectangular area to obtain a high memory efficiency, an image processing apparatus includes an input section which executes input processing of image data read by an image reading device in accordance with the data output format of the device, an output data control section which distributes the image data that has undergone the input processing by the input section in accordance with the output format of the image reading device, an address generation section which generates address information corresponding to the output format to store the distributed image data in a memory, and a memory control section which DMA-transfers the distributed image data to the memory and stores the image data on the basis of the generated address information.
Abstract:
To simplify the file operation of images recorded as a group of panorama images or the like. A character (ST) showing that it is included in a group, alphanumeric character assigned in order in each group, and characters showing file numbers in order of photographing are used as a file name of images to be recorded and a character showing an image compression method is used as the extension of a file name.
Abstract:
In an image processing method and apparatus for decoding and displaying input encoded data, the upper limit value of the data size to be stored in a memory that stores fragmented encoded data which form image data is set. It is checked based on the data size already stored in that memory, the upper limit value, and the data size of the input encoded data, if that input encoded data can be stored in the memory. If it is determined that the input encoded data cannot be stored in the memory, a region to be deleted in the image data of the data stored in the memory is determined. Data included in the determined region to be deleted is deleted for each fragmented data as a unit. If it is determined that the input encoded data can be stored in the memory, or after the data is deleted, the input encoded data is stored in the memory.
Abstract:
In an electronic imaging apparatus, image information of an image signal photoelectrically converted from an image incident is stored in image information storing means in a format dependent upon a type of the applied storage device. Provided therein are communication means for transmitting and/or receiving image information generated in this apparatus or the other equivalent apparatuses while an operation mode of the apparatus is set for communication and switch means for causing the communication means to start a communication mode operation.
Abstract:
A video reproducing method and apparatus includes reproducing at least still pictures encoded by a first encoding method and first pictures that have pixels smaller than the still pictures from a recording medium. The recording medium has the still pictures, the first pictures, moving pictures encoded by a second encoding method, and second pictures corresponding to the moving pictures that have pixels smaller than the moving pictures recorded thereon. A plurality of the reproduced first pictures are outputted and the still pictures corresponding to selected first pictures are outputted.
