摘要： Lightweight, programmable marking apparatus for moving a marking head to coordinate positions utilizing two fixed stepper motors performing in conjunction with a belt and pulley drive and cam drive systems. The dynamics of pneumatically driven marking pins within marking heads are accommodated for by dual guide rods mounted on marking base frame and material contacting standoffs. Improved marking head structure is provided utilizing a polyetherimide material and the use of an internal spring, rather than air pressure, to retract the marking pin to its top position. The lightweight design of the marking apparatus permits it to be adapted for hand held use.

摘要： A printing apparatus comprises a platen, a dot impact print head (23) opposite to the platen, a mask plate (40) between the platen and the print head with a paper passage between the platen and the mask plate (40), and an ink ribbon (31) between the print head and the mask plate. Transport mechanisms are provided to move the mask plate (40) in a direction substantially perpendicular to said paper passage between a first position on the print head side and a second position on the platen side, the transport mechanisms being responsive to the position of the print head along the platen. In the first position of the mask plate a relatively wide gap between the platen and the mask plate enables easy paper insertion, while in the second position a relatively wide gap between the mask plate and the print head facilitates replacement of the ink ribbon without problems.

摘要： A character selecting mechanism for a printer having a plurality of type wheel units arranged axially on a shaft. The character selecting mechanism comprises a plurality of electromagnetic clutches each having a solenoid, a sleeve rotatably received in the center hole of the solenoid and rotated continuously during a printing cycle, and a pair of selector plates resiliently pressed against the opposite end surfaces of the sleeve, respectively, so as to be attracted to the sleeve and to be turned by the sleeve when the solenoid is energized, having tongues facing opposite to each other to form part of a magnetic path for the magnetic lines of force of the solenoid with a small gap therebetween and in contact with each other through a small contact area. Each electromagnetic clutch controls a pair of type wheel units to stop the respective type wheels of the pair of type wheel units individually to position the selected characters of the type wheels at the printing position. Small projections are formed either in one of the opposite surfaces of the tongues or in both the opposite surfaces of the tongues so that the tongues are in contact with each other through a small contact area so that the selector plates are able to be turned individually.

摘要： A printer of the type including a platen, a bank of hammers extending in a straight line along and spaced from the platen and a continuous metal band of magnetizable material on which are mounted a plurality of print elements is provided with drive means for moving the band between the platen and the hammer bank and control means for controlling the movement of the band so that the print elements on the band move along the line of hammers. The band drive means includes a drive wheel located near one end of the hammer bank and means for forcing the band into close contact with the peripheral surface of the drive wheel. The means for forcing the band into close contact with the peripheral surface of the drive wheel can be a permanent magnet member located on the surface of the drive wheel. The band movement control means includes guide means for guiding the band so that it extends along the hammer bank and permanent magnet means adapted to force the band into close contact with the guide means. The guide means can be a fixed guide member located near the end of the hammer bank remote from the drive wheel and the permanent magnet means can be a permanent magnet member located on the surface of the guide member and adapted to attract the band to the guide member.
