    摘要: A freely reciprocating piston is movable between opposite cylinder end chambers with pressurized gas introduced alternately into the end chambers and exhausted from each chamber during at least a portion of the period that it is not being so introduced into that chamber so as to oppositely drive the piston continuously reciprocally. A single exhaust port in the cylinder side wall is located adjacent a first of the cylinder end chambers directly open to that end chamber during part of the piston movement and overlapped by the piston disrupting such direct opening during the remainder of piston movement. A single gas inlet port at the cylinder side wall is spaced between the cylinder end chambers communicating through a first gas channel formed through the piston with the first cylinder end chamber during a part of the time the piston overlaps the exhaust port and communicating through a piston second gas channel with a second of the cylinder end chambers during a part of the time the exhaust port is directly open to the first cylinder end chamber.

Rotational pistons provide increased torque generation as the torque generated is proportional to motor length. Since downhole drills are long (generally up to a maximum length of 30 ft.), a high-torque motor can be produced using this method. A pressurized fluid is used to drive the piston assemblies to produce bit shaft power. This concept employs rotary pistons and a mechanical rectifier to convert the rotational reciprocation produced by a reciprocating rotational piston into continuous rotary motion.

Mercury is added to or discharged from a tank (42) which is rigidly secured to piston rod (16) to vary the inertia of the oscillator (10).

    摘要: A percussive device for creating impact impulses, which device comprises a housing accommodating a striker. The striker has a tail portion located in a power cylinder which is joined to the housing and is filled with a fluid medium under pressure, said fluid medium operating the striker. Provision is made of an arresting mechanism which is kinematically connected to a drive designed to engage the striker for effecting its backward stroke in the process of which the fluid medium under pressure is compressed, storing potential energy. According to the invention, the striker backward stroke drive is constructed in the form of several hydraulic cylinders equidistantly spaced round the periphery of the housing. The rod of each of the hydraulic cylinders is connected to the striker arresting mechanism. One of the spaces in said hydraulic cylinders is constantly connected with the interior space of the power cylinder for the purpose of moving the arresting mechanism under the pressure of the fluid medium, whereas the other cylinder space is periodically put in communication with the pressure source, in order to effect the backward stroke of the arresting mechanism together with the striker, and with a pressure medium exhaust line.
