    摘要: Disclosed herein is a flame retardant composition comprising 20 to 80 weight percent of a polycarbonate; 1 to 20 weight percent of a laser activatable additive; the laser activatable additive being operative to plate the flame retardant composition upon being activated by a laser; and 1 to 20 weight percent of a phosphazene compound; where all weight percents are based on the total weight of the flame retardant composition. Disclosed herein too is a method comprising blending 20 to 80 weight percent of a polycarbonate; 1 to 20 weight percent of a laser activatable additive; the laser activatable additive being operative to plate the flame retardant composition upon being activated by a laser; and 1 to 20 weight percent of a phosphazene compound to produce a flame retardant composition; where all weight percents are based on the total weight of the flame retardant composition; and extruding the flame retardant composition.

    摘要: Disclosed herein are methods and compositions polycarbonate blend compositions with improved appearance characteristics and impact characteristics. The resulting compositions, comprising a polycarbonate polymer, a first polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer, a second polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer, and optionally a color composition, can be used in the manufacture of articles while still retaining advantageous mechanical properties, melt flow properties, and appearance characteristics such as the ability to achieve deep black and bright white colors.     摘要: Copolyorganosiloxanecarbonates are prepared by first preparing an oligomeric aromatic polycarbonate, such as an oligomeric bisphenol A polycarbonate, in the presence of a tertiary amine as the only catalyst species; contacting the oligomeric polycarbonate mixture with a polyorganosiloxane bis(aryl)chloroformate, such as the bischloroformate of hydroxy-terminated eugenol polydimethylsiloxane; and introducing phosgene and/or chain termination agent either continuously or in stages. A feature of the process is the presence of dihydroxyaromatic compound in only one charge, at the beginning. The products have excellent physical properties, including transparency.
