    Abstract: Automated processes, devices and systems isolate signals received on first and second ports from each other using staggered time division multiple access (TDMA) schemes. Additionally or alternately, port and/or client identifiers can be included within communications propagating in multiple TDMA schemes, thereby allowing host and/or client devices to verify that communications are received on the intended ports. By logically isolating the communications of the multiple TDMA schemes and/or by providing identifying information within propagated communications, crosstalk between the two schemes can be substantially reduced or eliminated, often without substantial modifications to the hardware configuration of the system.

    Abstract: A smart multimedia content receiver automatically resizes video images based on the content being displayed on the TV screen. Such a self-formatting content receiver includes on-board image processing capability that provides continuous video analysis to detect changes in program formatting and convert each frame as it is received in real time, as opposed to processing and re-releasing an entire program or movie, or relying on the viewer to re-format programs manually. In response to detecting a change, aspect ratio adjustments are made as needed. Because the self-formatting content receiver has access to the video data before it is displayed, such automatic on-the-fly adjustments ensure that the viewer's experience during program changes is seamless and without distortion. Subscribers can influence decisions made by the content receiver by pre-setting viewer preferences for aspect ratio adjustment.

    Abstract: An RF antenna arrangement has the same or slightly larger footprint as the RF shield for radio chips on a printed circuit board. The apparatus includes a printed circuit board, a digital processor, a radio chip(s), a radio frequency shield, a lid, and an RF antenna arrangement(s). The lid has the same or slightly larger footprint as the RF shield, which enables the lid to fit on the RF shield. The RF antenna is formed as an integral part of the lid. The apparatus also includes an RF transmission coaxial cable(s) having a first end physically and electrically connected to the RF antenna arrangement(s) and the surface of the lid, and a second end electrically coupled to an RF connector. By forming the antenna arrangement(s) from the lid, this invention solves the space constraint problems of antenna placements for wireless device applications. Additionally, this invention is cost-effective and simple to manufacture.

    Abstract: An entertainment device includes an input circuit to receive audio/video data compliant with a high definition (H/D) video standard. The entertainment device also includes a video decoder, a graphics processing unit (GPU), and a graphics generator arranged as an onscreen display (OSD). The video decoder decodes the HD data into a stream of presentable frames. First and second registers associated with the GPU act as first and second forward pointers, respectively. Third and fourth registers associated with the OSD act as first and second reverse pointers, respectively. Video data output to a display by the OSD overlays video data output to the display by the GPU. The entertainment device includes first and second memory buffers to store and provide first and second data using the first forward and first reverse pointers and using the second forward and second reverse pointers, respectively. A smooth-play reverse playback controller cooperates with a processing unit to smoothly play high definition video in reverse without skipping any presentable frames of the HD video when it is played in reverse.

    Abstract: A method for recommending audiovisual content includes receiving a signal transmitted by a remote control device at a content receiving device. Position information of the remote control device is obtained based on the signal transmitted by the remote control device. The position information can include a distance between the remote control device and the content receiving device, a direction of the remote control device with respect to the content receiving device, and coordinates of the remote control device. Viewing habits are obtained based on the position information of the remote control device. An audiovisual program is selected based on the viewing habits. The audiovisual program is recommended to a user by outputting data indicating the selected audiovisual program from the content receiving device.

    Abstract: Various arrangements for monitoring and utilizing solar conjunction events are presented. An occurrence of a solar conjunction event caused by the sun being substantially aligned with the satellite antenna through which a television receiver receives signals from one or more satellites may be monitored. A prediction of a future solar conjunction event based on the monitored occurrence of the solar conjunction event may then be calculated. A second occurrence of the solar conjunction event may be monitored. It may be determined that the second occurrence of the solar conjunction event does not match the calculated prediction of the future solar conjunction event within a threshold range. One or more features of the television receiver may be disabled in response to determining that the second occurrence of the solar conjunction event does not match the calculated prediction of the future solar conjunction event within the threshold range.
