Abstract: An internal-combustion engine has a plurality of cylinders each with two intake valves driven by respective pumping pistons operatively associated to cams of a camshaft, by respective hydraulic circuits. The hydraulic has its pressure chamber communicating with hydraulic actuators of the two intake valves, so that the two intake valves of each cylinder are controlled, via two different hydraulic circuits, by cams associated to two different cylinders. Each cam is configured to give rise to a cycle of opening and closing of each of the intake valves in an angular range of rotation of the crankshaft less than 180° such that, in each operating cycle of a cylinder, only the first intake valve initially opens and closes while the second intake valve remains closed, and then the second intake valve opens and closes while the first intake valve remains closed.

Abstract: An internal-combustion engine has a plurality of cylinders each with two intake valves driven by respective pumping pistons operatively associated to cams of a camshaft, by respective hydraulic circuits. The hydraulic has its pressure chamber communicating with hydraulic actuators of the two intake valves, so that the two intake valves of each cylinder are controlled, via two different hydraulic circuits, by cams associated to two different cylinders. Each cam is configured to give rise to a cycle of opening and closing of each of the intake valves in an angular range of rotation of the crankshaft less than 180° such that, in each operating cycle of a cylinder, only the first intake valve initially opens and closes while the second intake valve remains closed, and then the second intake valve opens and closes while the first intake valve remains closed.

Abstract: A method of controlling a vehicle hybrid propulsion system is provided. The propulsion system includes an internal combustion engine, first and second clutches, an electric motor, and a gearbox having an input shaft and an output shaft connected to drive wheels. The method includes a first operating mode of starting the engine by the motor, a second operating mode of actuating a gear shift, and a third operating mode which actuates starting of the engine and the gear shift. The method includes passing from the first to the third operating modes even if starting of the engine has not been completed, or passing from the second to the third operating modes even if actuation of the gear shift has not been completed, so that the transition from one operating mode to another can be freely actuated at any time, depending upon operating conditions of the hybrid propulsion system.

Abstract: A motor-vehicle includes one or more electrically-operated valves, arranged on the structure of the motor-vehicle in a lower position with respect to the windows, for providing a communication between a passenger compartment and the external environment, and one or more electronic control units programmed to activate a ventilation mode of the passenger compartment when the motor-vehicle is parked with the engine off, even with the driver outside the vehicle. The ventilation mode includes controlling at least partial opening of one or more windows and the opening of one or more of the valves to generate a flow of natural air from the bottom upwards through the passenger compartment of the motor-vehicle.

Abstract: A structural joint between two components of metal material is obtained by carrying out an electrical resistance welding spot between said components and subsequently performing a step of applying a cladding of metal material by an additive manufacturing technology. In one example, after a first step of applying a coarse base cladding, a second step of applying a fine cladding is carried out, again by additive manufacturing technology. The fine cladding can include a distribution of stiffening micro-ribs above the base cladding. The same method can also be applied to a single sheet metal component, rather than to a welded joint.

Abstract: A method for joining a metal material element to a plastic material element, in particular a composite material including a plastic matrix reinforced with fibers for use in the construction of motor-vehicle components. The method involves providing one or more slots in a portion of the plastic material element. For each slot, a corresponding tab is provided in the metal material element, having a shorter width and length than a width and length of the slot. The metal material and plastic material elements are arranged in a position of mutual coupling where each tab is inserted through the corresponding slot and has an end portion protruding beyond said portion of the plastic material element. A laser beam is directed above the protruding end portion, so as to locally melt the metal material of each tab and create an enlarged head on each tab that is welded above the plastic material element.

Abstract: A vehicle structure sub-unit includes a cross-member of metal material and two crash-box modules with their front surfaces welded or glued to the rear wall of the cross-member. A reinforcing metal plate is interposed between the front surface of at least one of the two crash-box modules and the rear wall. The rear wall has a depressed flat portion in which the reinforcing plate is received, in such a way that the surface of the reinforcing plate facing the crash-box module is substantially flush with the surface of the rear wall. A depressed portion of the rear wall is located in an offset position, closer to the center of the cross-member, with respect to the crash-box module, in such a way that the reinforcing plate is in contact only with a part of the front surface of the crash-box module, the remaining part of the front surface being in direct contact with the rear wall.

Abstract: A seal for a movable part of a motor-vehicle includes at least one body formed of polymeric elastomeric material supplemented with carbon-based nanofillers. The body includes an outer surface having one or more piezo-resistive areas where the polymeric material supplemented with carbon-based nanofillers is piezo-resistive due to laser irradiation to define one or more electric deformation sensors activatable in response to a contact with a foreign body during the movement of the movable part of the motor-vehicle. The body also includes one or more conductive lines made locally electrically-conductive due to laser irradiation to define the one or more electrical connection lines connecting the electric deformation sensors to electrodes associated with the seal.

Abstract: A method of controlling a pickup manoeuvre of a hybrid vehicle is actuated with an engine off, an electric motor active and a first clutch being open. In a first phase of the manoeuvre, vehicle advancement is obtained by progressively closing the second clutch so that the input shaft is set in rotation with an increasing speed, while the motor rotates at an increasing speed higher than a speed of the input shaft with the second clutch in a slip condition. Upon a request for starting the engine, the first clutch is progressively closed so that the engine starts to be driven by the motor, while the second clutch is kept in the slip condition, which is maintained until the engine and motor rotate substantially at a same speed, higher than the speed of the input shaft, and once this condition is reached, closing of the second clutch is started.
