Abstract:
A method of generating a multicarrier spread spectrum signal having a constant envelope includes partitioning multiple spreading codes into at least a first portion of spreading codes and a second portion of spreading codes. First and second modulating signals, respectively, are formed from the first and second portions of spreading codes. A first carrier spread spectrum signal is modulated with the first modulating signal to form a first modulated carrier signal, and a second carrier spread spectrum signal is modulated with the second modulating signal to form a second modulated carrier signal. The first and second modulated carrier signals are summed to form the multicarrier spread spectrum signal. The method includes combining spreading codes from the multiple spreading codes using majority voting logic to form the first and second portions of spreading codes.
Abstract:
Polyurethane foams formed under vacuum (below atmospheric pressure) conditions using primarily graft polyether polyols reacted with primarily toluene diisocyanate have lower densities (up to 1.3 lb/ft3), lower hardness (IFD25 up to 50 lbs), and exhibit superb thermoformability and fire retardance while retaining good sound insulating characteristics. The foam-forming ingredients are mixed together and foamed under controlled pressures in the range 0.5 to 0.95 bar (absolute). Such foams taken alone, or in combination with a barrier layer to form a laminate, are thermoformed to create a sound insulator for a motor vehicle instrument panel.
Abstract:
A method for depositing an amorphous carbon layer on a substrate includes the steps of positioning a substrate in a chamber, introducing a hydrocarbon source into the processing chamber, introducing a heavy noble gas into the processing chamber, and generating a plasma in the processing chamber. The heavy noble gas is selected from the group consisting of argon, krypton, xenon, and combinations thereof and the molar flow rate of the noble gas is greater than the molar flow rate of the hydrocarbon source. A post-deposition termination step may be included, wherein the flow of the hydrocarbon source and the noble gas is stopped and a plasma is maintained in the chamber for a period of time to remove particles therefrom.
Abstract:
A system is disclosed including an electronic device having a case housing an operative portion, such as a sound system, CD Player, or the like. A bay is formed in the case and includes a communication channel interface electrically coupled to the operative portion. The system further includes a portable computer, such as a personal digital assistant (PDA). The portable computer is sized to fit within the bay having a communication channel thereof in data communication with the communication channel interface. The portable computer stores applications including one or more control applications programmed to generate control signals in response to user inputs. Applications may display an interface on a touch screen and receive user inputs therefrom. The control signals are transmitted to the operative portion which responds to the control signals by playing music, adjusting a volume level, and the like.
Abstract:
A pouch for a portable electronic device is disclosed comprising an outer wall forming an opening secured to a portable electronic device. The outer wall includes rounded or faceted surfaces conforming to the hand of a user holding the electronic device. A compressible stylus may secure to the portable electronic device between two stops holding the stylus in a compressed position. A cover of the electronic device hingedly secures thereto and includes a catch selectively maintaining the cover in a closed position. A power switch of the electronic device is positioned proximate the catch such that substantially simultaneous release of the catch and powering on of the device are enabled.

Abstract:
An upholstery construction for a mattress or an article of furniture includes a flame barrier foam sheet proximate to the back face of a surface fabric layer. The flame barrier foam sheet is formed by coating or impregnating a polyurethane sheet with an aqueous solution of one or more binder(s), such as but not limited to a polyvinyl chloride copolymer or an acrylic latex binder, and one or more flame retardant(s), such as but not limited to aluminum trihydrate or melamine. The flame barrier foam sheet with dried binder(s) and flame retardant(s) not only resists flame ignition but also retains its cushioning properties.
Abstract:
An integrated circuit and method are provided for sensing activity such as acceleration in a predetermined direction. The integrated released beam sensor preferably includes a switch detecting circuit region and a sensor switching region connected to and positioned adjacent the switch detecting circuit region. The sensor switching region preferably includes a fixed contact layer, remaining portions of a sacrificial layer on the fixed contact layer, and a floating contact on the remaining portions of the sacrificial layer and having only portions thereof directly overlying the fixed contact layer and in spaced relation therefrom in a normally open position and extending lengthwise generally transverse to the predetermined direction so that the floating contact contacts the fixed contact layer responsive to acceleration in the predetermined direction. The floating contact is preferably a released beam which is released by opening a window or removing unwanted portions of the sacrificial layer. The methods of forming an integrated sensor advantageously are preferably compatible with know integrated circuit manufacturing processes, such as for CMOS circuit manufacturing, with only slight variations therefrom.
Abstract:
An integrated circuit preferably includes a plurality of enhancement-mode MOSFETs on a substrate with each MOSFET having an initial threshold voltage, and a plurality of resistors connected to define a resistor voltage divider for passively biasing the MOSFETs to produce an absolute value of an effective threshold voltage of each MOSFET to be lower than an absolute value of the initial threshold voltage. Accordingly, the effective threshold voltages may set to below a predetermined value, and lower supply voltages thereby readily accommodated. For integrated circuits having all n-channel MOSFETs, the threshold voltages are positive, and the voltage divider can be set accordingly. The invention is advantageously also used in CMOS integrated circuits having both p-channel and n-channel MOSFETs. The resistor voltage divider may preferably be set or trimmed after forming the MOSFETs. Accordingly, in one embodiment heat fusible links, are operatively connected to the first plurality of resistors for permitting selective electrical connection of predetermined ones of the resistors. In another variation, the voltage divider may be set by at least one laser trimmed resistor having a trimmed resistance to produce a desired effective threshold voltage for each MOSFET. Method aspects of the invention are also disclosed.
