Abstract:
A method for operating a working machine including a fluid storage tank on a roadway includes providing a spray assembly that is in fluid communication with the fluid storage tank. The spray assembly further includes a plurality of nozzle assemblies, each of which comprises a direct acting valve having a solenoid switch assembly and a valve assembly. The spray assembly also includes a controller that is operatively connected to each of the direct acting valves for controlling the opening and closing thereof. The controller includes a power source, a spray control, an input module and an output module. The input module is operatively connected to the solenoid switch assembly of each nozzle assembly and to the spray control, and it is adapted to determine if the valve assembly of each nozzle assembly is open or closed. The output module is operatively connected to the spray assembly and to the power source, and it is adapted to energize the solenoid switch assembly of each nozzle assembly in the spray assembly. A selector is operatively connected to the controller and may be employed by an operator of the working machine to selectively operate one or more of the direct acting valves in order to provide a desired spray pattern of fluid from the fluid storage tank onto the roadway.

A screed assembly for an asphalt paving machine includes a lower screed plate, an upper screed plate and a heating element that is in contact with the lower screed plate. The screed assembly also includes a compression bolt assembly having a primary bolt, a compression bolt and a compression spring. The primary bolt has a through hole, and the compression bolt is adapted to be inserted through the hole of the primary bolt. The compression spring is adapted to be placed over the lower end of the primary bolt, so that the compression bolt assembly may cooperate with the upper screed plate to apply a compression force to the heating element on the lower screed plate.
Abstract:
A CIR train that is adapted to traverse a roadway of asphalt pavement in order to recycle and repair the asphalt pavement includes a milling machine for removing asphalt paving material from the roadway. The CIR train also includes an asphalt cement supply tank and a mechanism for dispensing asphalt cement onto asphalt paving material that has been removed from the roadway. A heater is in fluid communication with the asphalt cement supply tank and the mechanism for dispensing asphalt cement on the asphalt paving material that has been removed from the roadway. The heater is adapted to heat the asphalt cement from the asphalt cement supply tank prior to said asphalt cement being dispensed on the asphalt paving material that has been removed from the roadway.
Abstract:
A material transfer vehicle includes a frame and an operator's platform that is mounted on the frame. A conveyor is mounted on the frame, adjacent to and below the operator's platform. The conveyor is adapted to be moved between a working position and a travel position. An access stairway to the operator's station includes a side stair portion and a conveyor step that is mounted on the upper side of the conveyor.

A vehicular sweeping machine includes a frame and a broom assembly that is mounted to the frame. The broom assembly includes a broom enclosure and a broom that is mounted within the broom enclosure. A plurality of links are pivotally mounted between the frame and the broom assembly. These links are adapted to permit the broom assembly to move upwardly and downwardly with respect to the frame. The vehicular sweeping machine also includes a broom conveyor having a lower end that is disposed within the broom enclosure.
Abstract:
A working machine such as a road milling machine of an asphalt paving machine has an automatic grade and slope control system that causes the machine to maintain a pre-selected grade and slope with respect to a reference without significant operator input. A calibration system employs a calibration controller to calibrate the automatic grade and slope control system. The calibration controller causes a current to be sent to a valve that operates a linear actuator that may be employed to change the attitude of the frame of the working machine. The calibration controller uses feedback from at least one sensor, such as a height-measuring sensor or a slope-measuring sensor, in an iterative process that determines the minimum current necessary to cause a change in the attitude of the frame of the working machine. Once this minimum value is determined, the system will establish the optimum settings for the automatic grade and slope control system to improve its efficiency and cause it to operate more smoothly.
Abstract:
A working machine for use in milling the surface of a road includes a drive engine that produces engine exhaust gases. The working machine also includes a milling drum that is mounted for rotation against the surface of the road so as to generate milled material including dust from the road surface. The milling drum is contained within a milling chamber, and a spray assembly directs water into the milling chamber in such a manner that, during a period of rotation of the milling drum against the surface of the road, at least a portion of the water is converted to a vapor. A conduit is provided for conducting at least a portion of the engine exhaust gases into an enclosed space in communication with the milling chamber to raise the temperature of a gas stream therein containing vapor and dust from the milled material.
Abstract:
A method and system for guiding a road construction machine using a machine guidance system comprising at least one each of a machine position sensor, a laser-based sensor, and a processing unit. The machine position sensor first measures a position of a road construction machine relative to a road boundary condition. The laser-based sensor then captures a series of scans corresponding to the boundary condition. The processing unit, using the scans, determines an ideal path of travel for the road construction machine. Based on the ideal travel path, the machine guidance system provides instructions to align the current travel path of the road construction machine to the ideal travel path.
