Abstract: A self-propelled system for thermally repairing asphalt by an operator is provided along with ways of using the system. The self-propelled system may include a drive wheel, an engine, a steering device, and a frame assembly. The engine may be configured to selectively provide power to the drive wheel to propel the asphalt repair system. The steering device may be configured to steer the asphalt repair system. A heating unit may be supported by the frame assembly and include a deployable portion configured to pivot between a deployed position and a non-deployed position. The deployed position has the deployable portion extending beyond an edge of the frame assembly and the non-deployed position has the deployable portion not extending beyond the edge of the frame assembly.

Abstract: The invention relates to a portable warm asphalt preparation apparatus 10 and a process 100 enabled thereby. The apparatus 10 comprises a first receptacle 12 defining a chamber 14, the chamber 14 comprising an inlet 14.1 for introducing an asphalt feed material comprising a source of granular plastic into the chamber 14, a floor 14.5 at an inclined plane between a lower first 14.6 end and an elevated second end 14.7 of the chamber 14, and an outlet 14.2 disposed at the elevated second end 14.7 for discharging a warm heterogenous mixture from the chamber 14. A conveying means 40 is provided for mixing the asphalt feed material and for transporting the resultant warm heterogenous mixture towards the outlet 14.2, with a heating means 60 for supplying heat to the asphalt feed material during mixing by the conveying means 40 to enable the formation of the warm heterogenous mixture.

Abstract: An indirect heating, drying and mixing chamber has a drum. A mixing/conveyor mechanism is positioned within the drum mixing and moving materials through the drum. An enclosure is provided wherein the drum is inserted within the enclosure to form an upper section of the enclosure between the drum and a top surface of the enclosure and a lower section of the enclosure between the drum and a bottom surface of the enclosure. A plurality of heat openings is formed on the bottom surface of the enclosure. A plurality of heating elements is provided, wherein an individual heating element is coupled to a corresponding heat opening, the plurality of heating elements generating heat which travels along the lower section of the enclosure and through the upper section of the enclosure heating the material in the drum.

Abstract: Mobile mixing devices, mobile mixing systems, and related methods are provided. A mobile mixing device can include a frame and a mixing drum securable to the frame. The mixing drum can include a body that forms an internal cavity and can have a forward end and a bottom end. The mixing drum can also include a mouth at the forward end of the body that provides access to the internal cavity of the mixing drum. The mobile mixing device can include a heater support arm having a heater secured to an end of the heater support arm that is distal from the mixing drum. The mixing drum can be used to process cement material when the heater support arm is in a stow-away position or asphalt when the heater support arm is in a heating position with the heater facing into the mouth of the mixing drum.

Abstract: A CIR train includes a milling machine, an asphalt cement supply tank, a mechanism for dispensing asphalt cement onto paving material that has been removed from the roadway by the milling machine, an asphalt cement pump for pumping asphalt cement from the asphalt cement supply tank into and through an asphalt cement flow circuit to the asphalt cement dispensing mechanism. A heating assembly is interposed in the asphalt cement flow circuit between the asphalt cement supply tank and the dispensing mechanism. The heating assembly includes a heater and a heat modifying component. The heater includes an asphalt cement coil that is in the asphalt cement flow circuit, and a burner that is adapted to direct hot gases of combustion across the asphalt cement coil. The heat modifying component is adapted to modulate the amount of heat transfer from the hot gases of combustion to the asphalt cement in the coil.

Thus, the solution fits asphalt plants of different sizes and reduces the physical space required to store items belonging to the structure of the chassis. The high level of standardization has been achieved by segmenting the main structure of the chassis into three regions which appropriately accommodate all of the systems for producing the asphalt mixture.

Abstract: An asphalt processing system is formed from a heating chamber, a transfer system and an induction heating system. A plurality of paddles, conveyor flights, or conveyor belts having a U-shaped blade move the asphalt through the system while concurrently mixing the material to ensure consistent temperatures through the asphalt cement. The asphalt is heating using one or more induction heating systems to quickly heat the asphalt to between 300° F. and 350° F. The system can include a convection system designed to collect air from the heating chamber, further heat it, and recirculate the air to enhance the asphalt heating. A water condenser can be employed to remove moisture during air recirculation, reducing moisture content in the asphalt cement. The asphalt cement is optionally then modified by addition of one or more rejuvenation oils. This system is particularly useful for recycled asphalt pavement, but can be used for all asphalt products.
