In one aspect, the present invention provides catalysts for the carbonylation of heterocycles. The inventive catalysts feature metal-ligand complexes having cationic functional groups tethered to the ligand, wherein the tethered cationic groups are associated with anionic metal carbonyl species. The invention also provides methods of using the inventive catalysts to affect the ring opening carbonylation of epoxides.

Solid-state lighting devices (SSLDs) including a carrier substrate with conductors and methods of manufacturing SSLDs. The conductors can provide (a) improved thermal conductivity between a solid-state light emitter (SSLE) and a package substrate and (b) improved electrical conductivity for the SSLE. In one embodiment, the conductors have higher thermal and electrical conductivities than the carrier substrate supporting the SSLE.

Messages are targeted to travelers based on travel itineraries. Targeting may also be based on real-time travel status information. The targeted messages communicate their purpose and priority to respective travelers within the context of the travel itineraries. A disclosed method includes accessing a travel itinerary database including a plurality of travel itineraries. Each travel itinerary is associated with a traveler and defines itinerary segments of a corresponding travel schedule. A message is associated with a set of targeting rules used to identify a subset of itineraries in the travel itinerary database. The targeting rules may be used with real-time travel status information to identify the subset of itineraries.

A mobile-communication signal-jamming assembly includes a first portion shaped to fit within a power port of a vehicle and a second portion that at least partially extends from the power port. The assembly includes at least one engagement member that has a retracted position and an extended position that extends outwardly from the first portion and places the engagement member in a coupling arrangement with a portion of the power port of the vehicle. The assembly also includes a locking mechanism operable to selectively move the at least one engagement member from the retracted position to the extended position and a transmitter operable to broadcast radio frequency signals that interfere with at least one of a wireless transmission mode and a wireless reception mode of a mobile communication device proximate to the mobile-communication signal-jamming assembly.

In a content processing device, a set of media channels to be provided in a graphical user interface is identified. Each channel in a subset of the channels is assigned to a cell that is included in a set of cells in the graphical user interface. The graphical user interface is provided to a display. Upon a predetermined indication, at least some of the subset of the channels are rotated through at least a subset of the cells, whereby the display shows each of the cells in the subset of cells to be including a channel other than a channel that was included in the cell before the rotating was performed.

The closure device can include a body portion operatively associated with a first anchor and a second anchor. The body portion can include a plurality of segments defining a multi-cellular structure. A segment can define a variable width along a length of the segment to have a substantially equal stress level along the length when deflected. The closure device can be configured to apply lateral force to tissue of the internal tissue opening to bring tissue together for closure. The closure device can have a substantially flat aspect, and have a depth thickness that is substantially greater than the thickness or width of a majority of the members forming the closure device. The closure device can also include a member adapted to induce tissue growth.

Methods and compositions are provided for improving specificity during amplification of a target DNA sequence. The methods and compositions rely upon the use of an RNase H enzyme, a polymerase, and RNase H enzyme-sensitive, blocked-cleavable oligonucleotide primers in the amplification reactions, wherein the reaction mixtures include either an optimized final concentration of a divalent metal salt comprising 2.0 mM or less of free Mg++ cation and/or an optimized final concentration of a non-ionic detergent comprising at least about 0.001% polyethylene glycol hexadecyl ether.
