    摘要: In a liquid crystal display in which a liquid crystal having spontaneous polarization is sandwiched between substrates, liquid crystal alignment which achieves a wide viewing angle and hardly causes alignment destruction is readily formed. A common electrode is formed by a pair of meshed comb electrodes, and rubbing alignment is performed in the logitudinal direction of teeth of these comb electrodes. When the liquid crystal material transits from a nematic phase or an isotropic phase to a chiral smectic C phase, a positive DC voltage, for example, is applied between a pixel electrode and one of the comb common electrodes, and a negative voltage is applied between a pixel electrode and the other comb common electrode. This readily accomplishes liquid crystal alignment in which smectic layers bend horizontally with respect to the substrate surface in space portions between the interdigitated teeth of the comb electrodes.

The apparatus includes an integrator having an integration capacitor, to which a current sensor voltage is inputted, for outputting an output voltage corresponding to an integrated value of the current sensor voltage, and a resetting circuit for clearing integration electric charges accumulated in the integration capacitor to reset the integrator when the output voltage has reached an upper threshold value or a lower threshold value. The apparatus also includes a counter for counting the number of resets of the integrator in an upper direction or in a lower direction, and a connection-polarity inverting circuit for inverting a polarity of inputting of the current sensor voltage to the integrator, a polarity of connecting of the integration capacitor to the integrator and a counting direction of the counter, alternatively, at a regular time interval and synchronously. An integrated value of current flow is obtained on the basis of a count value of the counter.

    摘要: An optical recording medium driving apparatus has the first high-pass filter for outputting a low frequency component removed signal by removing a low frequency component from a reproduction signal varying depending on a reflected light beam from the optical recording medium. The low frequency component removed signal changes due to transient response just after an access operation starts. Zero voltage is inputted to the second high-pass filter during a tracking operation while a voltage having a negative polarity which is substantially the same amplitude as the AC component of the low frequency component removed signal is inputted to the second high-pass filter. The first high-pass filter has the same time constant as the second high-pass filter. Just after the access operation starts, the negative voltage has the same transient response as the output of the first high-pass filter. The output of the first high-pass filter is compared to the output of the second high-pass filter in order to have a binary signal of the binary logic condition. A land is discriminated from a groove according to the binary signal, thereby enabling to access a target track in accuracy.

    摘要: An information reproducing apparatus which has a rotating driver for rotating a disc-shaped recording medium, a floating-type head for reproducing information recorded in the recording medium while floating above the disc-shaped recording medium that is being rotated by the rotating driver, and a suspension, made of an elastic member, for supporting the floating-type head. The information reproducing apparatus is characterized in that the floating-type head has a slider which is floated by an air flow that is directed near the surface of the rotating disc-shaped recording medium, and that the slider has a bevelled portion at one side that faces the outer edge of the disc-shaped recording medium such that any contact between the slider and the ridge that exists along the outer edge area of the disc-shaped recording medium is virtually eliminated. Since the slider is virtually free from contacting the ridge that exists along the outer edge area of the disc-shaped recording medium, the storage capacity of the disc-shaped recording medium can be more effectively used.
