摘要:
A method of sampling an input signal in a delta-sigma modulator having at least an integrator stage and a feedback digital-to-analog converter (DAC) stage includes sampling an input signal at a sampling rate by alternately utilizing the two sampling capacitors during two sampling cycles such that the two sampling capacitors are each being utilized at half the rate of the sampling rate. Samples from the two sampling capacitors are summed at the sampling rate at an intermediate node with a feedback samples provided by the feedback DAC stage at the sampling rate to generate output samples which are output from integrator stage at the sampling rate.

A delta-sigma modulator of an order of at least three having a signal transfer function defining a signal low-pass response, the signal transfer function has a numerator and a denominator, the denominator defined by a product of first and second functions defining respective first and second pole sets such that a roll-off frequency of a low-pass response defined by the first pole set is at least twice a roll-off frequency of a low-pass response defined by the second pole set. The delta-sigma modulator also has a noise transfer function defining a noise high-pass response, the noise transfer function having a numerator and a denominator, the denominator defined by the product of the first and second functions. The numerator of the noise transfer function differs from the numerator of the signal transfer function and characterizes the noise high-pass response.

A delta-sigma modulator for driving an output stage is disclosed. The delta-sigma modulator operates between first and second voltages and includes a loop filter, a quantizer, and a feedback loop coupling an output of the quantizer and an input of the loop filter. The feedback loop includes compensation circuitry for compensating for variations in the first and second voltages in response to a measured average of the first and second voltages and a measured difference between the first and second voltages. Measuring circuitry measures the average and the difference of the first and second voltages.

A noise shaper includes a first feedback loop for noise shaping a first feedback signal under normal operating conditions and having a first filter with a first signal transfer function and a second feedback loop that is stable under overload conditions and has a second filter having a second signal transfer function differing from the first signal transfer function. The noise shaper also includes an output circuit block including a quantizer and steering circuitry. The quantizer includes an input simultaneously responsive to outputs of the first and second filters. The steering circuitry steers a feedback from an output of the quantizer to input of the first and second feedback loops. The steering circuitry steers feedback from output of the quantizer to inputs of the first and second feedback loops, the steering circuitry including a first output for providing the first feedback signal to the first feedback loop and a second output for providing a second feedback signal to the second feedback loop.
摘要:
A system and method for compensating switched mode amplifiers. The amplifier system includes an adaptive filter coupled to the output of circuitry that recovers the analog signal from the output of the switching amplifier circuitry. The adaptive filter derives an inverse transfer function of the forward path through the system. The derived inverse transfer function is used to generate a coefficient map which a compensation filter responsively compensates for from variations in the output load of the amplifier system. In the disclosed method, the deriving the inverse transfer function may further include calibrating the adaptive filter continuously, at system startup or in response to user demand.

The present invention correlates noise from a delta sigma modulator with noise from the same modulator passed through a nonlinear block whose purpose is to isolate the imperfection being measured. Once the imperfection is measured the results may be used to correct the output of the delta sigma modulator, to accept or reject chips or for other purposes.

Circuitry is provided to compensate for distortion introduced into the output signal of a delta sigma digital to analog converter (DAC) by the power output stage of the amplifier. Such distortion is not consistent for a given output data value or short series of data values, but must be either measured and corrected in real time or must be corrected in real time based upon a sophisticated model of the system that predicts the distortion. Correction is applied to one or more feedback loops in the delta sigma converter. Distortion caused by fluctuations in the power supply voltage may also be modeled and corrected in real time.

The digital amplifier of the present invention comprises a delta sigma noise shaper feeding a pulse wave modulator (PWM) which drives a load such as a speaker. The amplifier includes circuitry to measure the voltage coming out of the power supply in the circuit, and using this measurement as a control signal to modify the feedback path and direct path of the noise shaper, in order to correct the pulse width output to compensate for the varying power supply voltages. The amplifier may also include circuitry to correct for the nonlinear effects of pulse wave modulation, by correcting the feedback applied to one stage of the noise shaper such that it is nontrivially different from the feedback applied to another stage.
