摘要: The mooring buoy fending system is a pole with guide rings attached thereto. When used to moor a boat, the pole extends substantially horizontally from the deck of the boat and supports a mooring line that is secured to a mooring buoy at one end and to the boat at the other end. The length of the pole is greater than half the length of the mooring line and therefore prevents the boat from bumping against the mooring buoy. In an alternative embodiment, the system includes a buoy-mounted storage receptacle and, in another alternative embodiment, the system includes a buoy having a storage receptacle protruding from the top of the buoy. Additionally, a storage receptacle may be defined within the buoy. In the alternative embodiments, the pole is stored in the storage receptacle to facilitate easy grasping by a person in an approaching boat.

摘要: The invention provides novel DNA and peptide sequences encoding a family of phospholipase A.sub.2 enzymes, with specific activities of approximately 20 .mu.mol/min/mg in the mixed micelle assay. These enzymes are useful in methods for detecting the anti-inflammatory potential of various chemical agents. The invention also details novel methods for determining such potential using the novel sequences, methods for making the novel peptides, and methods for developing new anti-inflammatory drugs.

摘要: A fiber optic bundle is wound for inside payout and is provided with a housing, with flanges, which maintains compressive force on the windings, and the payout of optical fiber is controlled by a substantially cylindrical mandrel placed in the interior of the inside payout spool. The mandrel supports a small-diameter tube through which the optical fiber pays and places drag on the optical fiber. The drag placed on the optical fiber passing through the small-diameter tube may be increased by slightly bending the tube. The combination of mandrel and small-diameter tube combine to hold the fiber coils in place and supply a certain amount of payout tension on the optical fiber.

摘要: A fixation device for fastening a medical implant to a patient'3 s bone is provided which includes a fastener with a head member and a shank and a fixation member. The shank has threads along its whole length, and has an outside diameter greater than the width of the head member. The fixation member includes a bore for receiving the fastener. The bore has a diameter intermediate the width of the head member and the outside diameter of the threads of the shank. The head member of the fastener can thus be inserted into the bore such that the uppermost thread abuts against the underside of the fixation member to prevent the fastener from backing out.

摘要: A data augmentation machine may form all or part of a data augmentation system that is configured to augment data. The data augmentation machine may be configured (e.g., by one or more software modules) to access data (e.g., by crawling one or more public or private networks), extract metadata based on the data (e.g., from the data and its source), create a link to additional data (e.g., based on the extracted metadata), and augment the extracted metadata (e.g., by storing augmented metadata with the extracted metadata). Such augmented metadata may be presented (e.g., within a user interface), published publicly (e.g., on a webpage), published privately (e.g., in a report available only to premium subscribers of a data augmentation service), or any suitable combination thereof.

摘要: A method and apparatus for collecting data for detecting and locating disturbances. A plurality of distinct regions of the space are identified, and, preferably, a hand-held device adapted for sensing positions of the device and respective representations of a field parameter at the positions is used. The positions are quantized within the regions and the corresponding representations within a region are combined. Separate scans are used to obtain baseline and detection scan results corresponding to the regions. The baseline and detection scan results are compared within a region, and the results of the comparison are used to produce scan results from which can be discerned whether a disturbance has occurred within the region. A triangulation is performed for determining the location of the disturbance, preferably using combinations of indeterminate sets of the scan results.
