摘要: A plasma display device comprises an area ratio detection means for detecting the area ratio of pixels having any luminance higher than a predetermined value in a display region; and a sustain frequency adjust means for adjusting, in accordance with the detected area ratio, the frequency or number of sustain pulses inputted to paired sustain electrodes in such a manner that the luminance in the display region satisfies a predetermined reference value. In this device, the frequency or number of the sustain pulses inputted to the paired sustain electrodes is adjusted in accordance with the detected area ratio, so that the luminance is always corrected to the reference value to thereby achieve proper expression of preset gradations.

摘要: Provided is a projection type liquid crystal display apparatus, which can improve black-level display and thus can display a higher-contrast image as compared to the related art. An optical compensator is located on the light exit side with respect to the liquid crystal display device so as to compensate for the optical phase difference caused by liquid crystal molecules in a light-entry-side region of the liquid crystal layer. As the optical compensator is located on the light exit side with respect to the liquid crystal display device, birefringence, caused by the liquid crystal molecules present in the light-entry-side region, is compensated for without being influenced by a microlenses provided in the liquid crystal plane. Consequently, the apparatus can improve the black-level display and thus can display a higher-contrast image as compared to the related art. Further, a phase difference caused by the birefringence of the nematic liquid crystal molecule is compensated for by using a substance having properties optically opposite to the positive crystal, namely, a substance having birefringence equivalent to birefringence of a negative crystal.

摘要: In a display apparatus having organic EL devices to display images in units of pixels, each pixel comprises a first transistor to drive the relevant device; a current supply circuit for supplying, in a first mode, a current of a magnitude based on the value of the pixel displayed by the device; a second transistor whose control electrode is connected to the control electrode of the first transistor to thereby constitute a current mirror circuit, wherein the second transistor receives, in the first mode, the current from the current supply circuit; a capacitor connected to the control electrode of the second transistor and holding, in the first mode, the voltage generated in the control electrode of the second transistor when the current from the current supply circuit has been received; and a switch for connecting, in a second mode, the device to the first transistor in a state where the voltage generated in the control electrode of the second transistor and held in the capacitor is supplied to the control electrode of the first transistor. In this device, high-quality image display can be achieved at lower cost with a simplified structure.

摘要: An organic electroluminescent (EL) display, wherein fabrication is simplified, manufacturing cost is reduced, periodicity with which pixels are arrayed is maintained, picture quality is prevented from deteriorating due to a boundary between transparent substrates, and high resolution is realized. A plurality of organic thin film EL display elements are formed on a single transparent substrate. Circuit substrates on which driver circuits for supplying signals to signal and scanning electrodes for each of the EL display elements are mounted are bonded to the EL display elements. The circuit substrate has an end-sealing property and through holes are bored opposite the signal and scanning electrodes. The through holes are covered by a conductive, end-sealing material. Signals are supplied from the driver circuit to the signal and scanning electrodes through the conductive material. A portion of the organic EL display element that is not bonded to the circuit substrate is covered by an end-sealing material.
