摘要: A method and system are provided in a wireless communications system comprising a plurality of nodes (users) working cooperatively. The system provides cooperative diversity by allowing nodes to actively share their antennas and other resources to obtain spatial diversity. The nodes receive the same message (information data) from a common source. Each node enhances the reliability of the message with a modern forward error correction (FEC) code, converts the FEC encoded message into an ensemble of symbols, divides the ensemble of symbols into packets, modulates, dithers and transmits the packets to a receiving node. The dithering process is performed by varying the signal amplitude, phase, frequency and/or symbol timing of the modulated packets. A unique dither pattern is assigned to each node. The receiving node captures a composite signal comprising the transmitted packets of all or most of the transmitting nodes in the cooperative communications system. Because the transmitted packets are dithered independently in phase and/or amplitude, spatial diversity is transformed into temporal diversity.

摘要: A multi-state spin based memory cell uses a pair of ferromagnetic layers. A first ferromagnetic layer can be set to any known state k from a set of n different states by adjusting a magnetic orientation of such layer. The relationship of the first ferromagnetic layer and a second magnetic layer can thus correspond to a value of a data item in a non-volatile multi-bit memory cell.

摘要: The portable cooler is a portable refrigeration system for selectively and adjustably cooling a removable container, such as a beer keg, for example. The portable cooler includes a housing that defines an open interior region for removably receiving the keg. A door is pivotally mounted to the housing, providing the user with selective access to the open interior region. A refrigeration device is mounted within the housing, adjacent the container, and may be powered by an external power supply or by rechargeable batteries, also received within the housing. Wheels are pivotally mounted to a lower end of the housing, and a handle is mounted to an upper end of the housing, allowing the user to selectively transport the housing and keg.

摘要: A conference server enables collaborative communications among a variety of client processes of varying configurations all operatively coupled over a computer network to each other and to the server. The server receives audio streams from participating client processes in a conference, selects which audio streams are active, and broadcasts one or more of the active audio streams to the client processes participating in the conference depending on the clients receiving capabilities and the conference parameters. The client processes receiving multiple active audio streams perform mixing locally at the client node. Without having to perform mixing at the server, resources are saved and the number of simultaneous participating client processes to the conference may be increased accordingly. The server is further capable of simultaneously accommodating multipoint clients and non-multipoint H.323 clients, as well as operating in multiway and “push to talk” modes.

摘要: An image is updated on a bi-stable display (310) such as an electrophoretic display in a transition from a current image state to a subsequent image state. A voltage waveform (600, 620, 640, 660; 700, 720, 740, 760) is selected based on the current and subsequent image states, and a previous image state. The bi-stable display (310) is driven from the current image state to the subsequent image state using the selected voltage waveform. For a given transition from the current to the next image state, different waveforms are stored for different previous states, e.g., black, dark grey, light grey and white. The different waveforms may have different drive pulse (DR) or reset pulse (RE1, RE2) energies. In a trial and error optimization process, different waveforms with different reset and/or drive pulse energies are tested for different previous image states to see which waveform yields the smallest greyscale error.

摘要: Techniques are provided for selecting a root node in an ad hoc network comprising a plurality of nodes including a first node. According to one implementation of these techniques, a first node can receive a message from at least one of the other nodes. Each message includes a number of primary factors associated with a particular node regarding capabilities of the particular node. The primary factors associated with each node can then be evaluated, and an attempt can be made to select the root node based on the primary factors associated with each node. If the first node is unable to select the root node based on the primary factors associated with each node, then the root node can be selected based on secondary factors associated with each node.

摘要: Selection of an audio-visual stream from among a plurality of streams occurs by first detecting a navigation packet within at least one stream that provides information concerning the stream, as well as those streams in lie in synchronism therewith. From the navigation packet, a determination is made which other streams lie in synchronism with the one stream, which audio and sub-picture data packets exist in each stream, and as well as which highlight information properties exist for selecting among the synchronized streams. At least one of the audio data packets, sub-picture data packets, or highlight information properties undergoes modification in accordance with information about at least one other synchronized stream to allow display of a viewer selectable button or the like to select among the synchronized streams and/or be presented with differing audio and/or sub-picture contents with each stream.
