摘要: In a communications system, a message to be transmitted is used to generate an error detection checkword. Both the message and checkword are encoded into a communication traffic signal using an error correction code. An error correction decoder decodes a received traffic signal, generating a plurality of candidate decoded signals and quantitative measurements of the reliability of the candidates. An error detection calculator tests the most reliable candidate for compliance between its decoded message and checkword. If there is compliance, that candidate and its decoded message are selected. If there is no compliance, the next most reliable candidate is tested for compliance, the selection process continuing until compliance is found. If no compliance is found among all the candidates, an error corrector scrutinizes the most reliable candidate for the presence of a correctable error, and the corrected candidate is re-tested for compliance. If there is still no compliance, the next most reliable candidate is scrutinized for the presence of a correctable error, and the corrected candidate is retested for compliance, the process continuing until compliance is found, up to the limits of the error correction capability of the error corrector.

摘要: Demodulation of a CDMA downlink signal is performed by filtering correlations of the received signal with a known signature sequence. Unlike the conventional RAKE receiver, the filtering is not necessarily a FIR filter with coefficients equal to the conjugates of channel tap estimates. Instead, the present invention filters in such a way as to maximize the output signal-to-noise ratio, accounting for the fact that part of the noise comes from the same base station as the signal, so that it is colored by the same channel as the signal.

摘要: An amplifying apparatus for linearly amplifying a desired signal using a pair of coupled non-linear amplifiers is disclosed. The amplifying apparatus comprises a limiter for separating amplitude variations from the desired signal and producing a constant amplitude signal bearing the phase of the desired signal and an amplitude related signal. In addition, a drive signal generater produces two drive signals each dependent on the constant amplitude signal and the amplitude related signal such that each drive signal depends on the phase of the desired signal and such that the sum of the squares of the amplitudes of the drive signals is constant. Finally, a coupler couples the two drive signals to produce two constant amplitude signals for driving the pair of non-linear power amplifiers and for coupling the outputs of the power amplifiers to produce two amplified output signals, one of which is the linearly amplified desired signal and the other of which is a waste energy signal.

摘要: Binary signals that are transmitted by Manchester coding and frequency modulation are demodulated based on the behavior of the phase or complex vector value of the received signal. The polarities of the information bits may be determined by measuring the phase excursions in the middles of the Manchester symbols. A phase reference is established from a plurality of candidate phase references as a basis for comparison of the mid-symbol phase. The phase can be measured at the start-points and end-points of the symbols and averaged, or measured a plurality of times during each symbol period to generate a reference phase.

摘要: A processor for generating a Walsh transform by substantially simultaneously calculating M combinations of M input values, wherein M=2.sup.N and the input values are two's-complement binary values, has N stages electrically connected in sequence, wherein each stage has a criss-cross network of M conductors electrically connected in a predetermined pattern to a set of M/2 butterflies, the butterflies having devices for calculating sums and differences of respective values presented by their respective criss-cross networks and presenting the sums and differences to respective conductors of the next stage's criss-cross network. The input values are presented to the criss-cross network of the first stage serially and least-significant-bit first, and substantially synchronously therewith, the Walsh transform of the input values is serially produced by the butterflies of the N-th stage.

摘要: Measurements of mobile signal strength received at the base station are used to determine the portion of power that should be transmitted by the base station to a particular mobile. Each of a plurality of mobiles measure the relative strength of the base station signal specifically intended for that mobile. The relative strength is compared to either the total base station signal power or to a cumulative ranking of the power of signals intended for other mobiles. That comparison is used to determine whether the mobile should increase or decrease its power.

摘要: A device and a method for processing an analog input signal (S) which varies widely in amplitude, such as speech, for the purpose of reducing the ratio of maximum to minimum amplitude variations of an output signal (P), after the processing, to the square root of the ratio existing before processing in order better to transmit said signal through a channel of restricted dynamic range in the presence of additive noise. The device comprises a converter (2) arranged to change the input signal (S) into a stream of integer numbers (N1,N2,N3 . . .). The numbers in the stream represent in some proportional way the instantaneous value of the input signal (S) divided by a reference voltage (R). This reference voltage (R) is generated by a smoothed amplitude measuring device (4) in proportion to the amplitude of the output signal (P) that is produced, when the number stream is reconverted to an analog signal waveform by means of a converter (6) working with a constant reference voltage. A device and a method for processing a signal of compressed amplitude variation, such as might be produced by the method and device described above, in order to produce a signal of amplitude variation restored to the normal range, being the square of the compressed range is also disclosed.

摘要: A zero-IF radio receiver eliminates DC offset without distortion or loss of the low-frequency and DC components of the received or desired signal by initially differentiating the received signal to filter out the DC offset. The signal is amplified to a suitable level and then integrated to recapture the original DC and low frequency signal components. The integration essentially restores the filtered components to the original value in the amplified signal using an arbitrary constant of integration of bounded magnitude to generate a restored signal. Using various techniques that exploit predetermined signal patterns or inherent signal properties of the desired signal, the DC offset can be reasonably estimated. The DC offset estimate is then subtracted out of the restored signal leaving the amplified, received signal substantially free from distortion. An advantageous method for differentiating and digitizing the received, signal uses the technique of companded delta modulation.
