    摘要: A rotary apparatus includes a stationary stator having an internal cylindrical chamber. A rotor is rotatably mounted in the chamber. There are cam-like annular surfaces on the stator to each side of the rotor. A plurality of vane assemblies are slidably mounted on the rotor. The vane assemblies each have two outer ends. These slidingly engage the cam-like annular surfaces, whereby gases between the vane assemblies are compressed and expand between the cam-like surfaces and the rotor as the rotor and vanes rotate relative to the stator. Preferably each of the vane assemblies has two separate components, each outer end being on one of the components. The apparatus has a conduit for conducting compressed gases between the two components of each of the vane assemblies and thereby biasing each of the components towards one of the cam-like annular surfaces. Preferably there is an intake system for intaking gases between the vane assemblies and between the cam-like surfaces and the rotor and an exhaust systems for conducting exhaust gases away from the spaces. Each of the intake and exhaust systems preferably includes a reed valve. There may be a rotatable annular housing within the stator between the stator and the rotor. The components of the vane assemblies engage the housing, the housing rotating with the rotor and the vane assemblies.

    摘要: A solid state laser has an elongate slab of lasing material having a rectangular cross section with the lower face of the slab contacting a slab mount which is of a high thermal conductivity material. Energy to drive the lasing medium is provided by a flash lamp. Upper and lower faces of the slab are polished to an optically smooth finish so that light is able to propagate in a generally axial direction through the slab. Side faces of the slab are polished and then re-roughened to provide a finish with a surface damage zone comparable in depth to the wavelength of the lasing emission. For a lasing wavelength of one micrometer, the depth of surface damage is in the region of one micrometer.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an adjustable star wheel and guide rail assembly for use with containers being processed on an automated handling line between machines such as rotary packaging machines. Star wheels derive their name from their general shape. The star wheels of this invention have fingers that support containers, such that they convey the containers as the star wheel rotates. Conveniently, the fingers of the present invention may be set in any position within their range of movement. In addition, a supporting guide rail may be adjusted, for example by rotation on cams. Thus, the fingers and the guide rail may be set to convey containers of varying sizes while keeping the container's centers travelling along the centerline of the conveyor.

    摘要: One can identify and quantify one or more glycosylation markers of cancer by utilizing quantitative HPLC analysis of glycans which have been released from unpurified glycoproteins. The unpurified glycoproteins can be total glycoproteins or a selection of the total glycoproteins. The identified glycosylation marker can be a native glycan or a digestion product which has been segregated and amplified by exoglycosidase digestions. One can utilize the identified glycosylation marker, for example, for diagnosing and/or monitoring cancer in a subject. One can also use the glycosylation marker to identify glycoprotein biomarkers that carry the glycosylation marker. Such biomarkers can also be used for monitoring and/or diagnosing cancer. The biomarker may also be a subset of glycoforms of a glycoprotein that are separated in trains of spots on 2D gel.
