摘要： Methods and devices for sound detection and audio control are provided. A listening device (100) can include a receiver (102) and a sound director for directing a sound produced by the receiver into an ear of the user, a microphone (104) and a mount for mounting the microphone so as to receive the sound in an environment, a detector for detecting an auditory signal in the sound received by the microphone, and an alerting device for alerting the user to the presence of the auditory signal. The user's personal safety is enhanced due to the user being alerted to the presence of the auditory signal, which otherwise may be unnoticed by the user due to a loud sound level created at the ear of the user by the receiver.

摘要： A system that records audio and stores the recording is provided. The system includes first and second monitoring assemblies mounted in an earpiece that occludes and forms an acoustic seal of an ear canal. The first monitoring assembly includes an ambient sound microphone (ASM) to monitor an ambient acoustic field and produce an ASM signal. The second monitoring assembly includes an ear canal microphone (ECM) to monitor an acoustic field within the ear canal and produce an ECM signal. The system also includes a data storage device configured to act as a circular buffer for continually storing at least one of the ECM signal or the ASM signal, a further data storage device and a record-activation system. The record-activation system activates the further data storage device to record a content of the data storage device.

摘要： The invention is a rod to rod connector that can be used to interconnect two generally parallel spinal rods of a spinal rod and anchor system. The connector comprises a transverse rod and two pairs of clamping bodies, one for each spinal rod. Each pair connects one of the longitudinal spinal rods to the transverse rod in infinitely adjustable angular relationship. One of the two clamping bodies of each pair comprises a C-shaped channel for accepting the spinal rod. The channel is in communication with a slot that defines a hinge. A threaded screw hole passes transversely through the slot and permits a screw to squeeze the hinge, thereby causing the C-shaped channel to close around and clamp the rod. The second clamping body is similar to the first except that there is no slot or hinge and the screw hole preferably is not threaded, but includes a countersink for seating a chamfered screw head. Also, an angular portion of the screw hole intersects the C-shaped channel. The two clamping bodies are aligned with each other so that their screw holes are coaxial so that a single screw can pass through both holes thereby clamping both rods in the C-shaped channels and fixing the angle between the two clamping bodies and, hence, the two rods. The first clamp clamps the spinal rod by squeezing the hinge to cause the C-shaped channel to squeeze around the rod. The second clamp clamps the transverse rod by virtue of the bottom of the screw head bearing down on the transverse rod over the portion of the screw hole that intersects the C-shaped channel.

摘要： Novel C3-C19 alkyl- and aryl-thiotrifluoroacetates are provided which have the structure wherein Q is C9-C19 alkyl or aryl, and are useful protecting agents for the amino or hydroxy functional groups of amines, amino acids or primary or secondary alcohols or amino alcohols to enable formation of amide bonds in peptides or proteins which are useful as screening agents, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. A process for preparing C3-C19 alkyl- and aryl-thiotrifluoroacetates is also provided wherein a C3-C19 alkylthiol or arylthiol is treated with trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA) in the presence of organic base such as pyridine, a solvent such as dichloromethane (DCM) and dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) as a catalyst to form the desired C3-C19 alkyl- or aryl-thiotrifluoroacetate. In addition, a process for protecting a primary or secondary amino group or a primary or secondary hydroxyl group or an amino alcohol with a trifluoroacetyl protecting group is provided wherein a primary or secondary amine, amino acid, a primary or secondary alcohol or an amino alcohol is treated with a C3 to C19 alkyl- or aryl-thiotrifluoroacetate in basic aqueous solution.
