Abstract: An optical strain gauge system measures strain on the exterior surface of a pipe to identify areas of wear on the interior surface of the pipe. The optical strain gauge system comprises an optical sensing interrogator and at least one optical fiber. The optical sensing interrogator comprises a light source and a light sensor. The at least one optical fiber includes fiber Bragg gratings along the length of the optical fiber. The optical fiber is arranged on the exterior surface of the pipe with the fiber Bragg gratings forming a two-dimensional array of points at which strain measurements are obtained. The two-dimensional array of strain measurement points provides an accurate assessment of the strains on the exterior of the pipe which can be used to identify areas of wear on the interior surface of the pipe.

Abstract: Provided is a process for hydrocracking normal paraffins into lighter normal paraffins with minimal formation of iso-paraffins. The process comprises hydrocracking a hydrocarbon feedstock comprising normal paraffins under hydrocracking conditions. The reaction is run in the presence of a selected catalyst, e.g., an LTA-type zeolite, with a requisite topology and acid site density. The zeolite has a framework type with voids greater than 0.50 nm in diameter, which are accessible through apertures characterized by a longest diameter of less than 0.50 nm and a shortest diameter of more than 0.30 nm. The reaction conducted in the presence of such a selected zeolite produces an n-paraffin rich product.

Abstract: A continuous process for converting waste plastic into recycle for polypropylene polymerization is provided. The process integrates refinery operations to provide an effective and efficient recycle process. The process comprises selecting waste plastics containing polyethylene and polypropylene and then passing the waste plastics through a pyrolysis reactor to thermally crack at least a portion of the polyolefin waste and produce a pyrolyzed effluent. The pyrolyzed effluent is separated into offgas, a naphtha/diesel fraction, a heavy fraction, and char. The naphtha/diesel fraction is passed to a refinery FCC unit, from which is recovered a liquid petroleum gas C3 olefin/paraffin mixture. The C3 paraffins and C3 olefins are separated into different fractions with a propane/propylene splitter. The C3 olefin fraction is passed to a propylene polymerization reactor. The C3 paraffin fraction is optionally passed to a dehydrogenation unit to produce additional propylene and then the resulting C3 olefin is passed to a propylene polymerization reactor. The heavy fraction of pyrolyzed oil is passed to an isomerization dewaxing unit to produce a lubricating base oil.

Abstract: A wellhead bracing system for a subsea well includes a base plate assembly and a wellhead brace assembly. The base plate assembly comprises a top surface, a bottom surface, a base plate aperture, and a plurality of anchor holes. The wellhead brace assembly comprises a vertical plate assembly having a cylindrical shape, a horizontal plate assembly to which the vertical plate assembly is attached, and a vertical support assembly attached to an outer surface of the vertical plate assembly and attached to the top surface of the horizontal plate assembly. Horizontal plate holes of the horizontal plate assembly are configured to attach to studs on the top surface of the base plate to secure the wellhead brace assembly to the base plate assembly. The wellhead bracing system slides onto a wellhead of the subsea well and braces an exterior of the wellhead.

Abstract: Differential equations defining physics of a reservoir are modeled as a neural network. Measured data for the reservoir is used as boundary condition to calculate the different equation parameters. The result is a neural ordinary differential equation network that models reservoir characteristics (e.g., inter-well connectivities, response times for injection wells and production wells) using physics that are encoded into the network. The neural ordinary differential equation network provides a solution for the reservoir that is constrained by the physics of the reservoir.
