    摘要: The present invention provides a filter apparatus for use in removing impurities contained in a fluid that includes a housing, a full flow filter contained in the housing, the housing and the full flow filter arranged such that the entirety of the fluid to be filtered by the filter apparatus passes through the full flow filter, a bypass filter, and a conduit which contains a pressure reduction section. The full flow filter, bypass filter, and conduit positioned within the housing such that the bypass filter is positioned downstream of the full flow filter and the pressure reduction section is arranged to create a pressure differential across the bypass filter such that a predetermined portion of the fluid to be filtered by the filter apparatus passes through the bypass filter. The invention further provides a method of removing impurities contained in a fluid by filtration by introducing a fluid to a filtering apparatus including a full flow filter and a bypass filter; filtering 100% of the fluid with the full flow filter; creating a pressure differential across the bypass filter whereby a predetermined portion of the fluid filtered by the full flow filter is drawn through the bypass filter, thereby filtering the predetermined portion of the fluid a second time.

    摘要: A coolant filter for use in filtering a coolant solution which flows through the coolant filter includes a filter housing assembly which is made up of an outer housing which is crimped to a nutplate which defines an internally threaded flow outlet. A generally cylindrical filter element is positioned inside of the filter housing assembly and a first endplate is bonded to the end of the filter element which is adjacent to the nutplate. An endplate member is provided for attachment to the opposite end of the filter element and is configured in such a way so as to define an interior chamber where supplemental coolant additive pellets are stored. A closing plate is applied across the open end of the interior chamber so as to create an enclosed chamber for the supplemental coolant additive pellets. A slow release mechanism is provided for controlling the rate of release of the supplemental coolant additive from the enclosed chamber into the coolant solution. In one embodiment of the present invention, the slow release mechanism includes a diffusion tube which defines a diffusion orifice. In another embodiment of the present invention, the slow release mechanism includes a semipermeable (or osmotic) membrane wafer. In both instances, the slow release mechanism is positioned between the source of supplemental coolant additive and the flow outlet in the nutplate.

    摘要: A fuel filter assembly that provides a constant level of least restricted fuel flow through the fuel filter assembly during the useful life of the filter media by utilizing the least possible amount of filter media to provide the least possible pressure differential over the filter media while also providing a constant level of fuel additive by exposing an amount proportional to the filter media required for the least possible restricted fuel flow. The fuel filter assembly utilizes a vertically upward housing that houses a filter media and a fuel additive. The fuel level slowly rises in the housing as the filter media becomes obstructed with contaminants and as the fuel additive dissolves over the life of the filter media. The top portion of the housing is made of a transparent material so that the level of fuel level may be easily determined, thereby allowing for an accurate and simple assessment of the useful life of the filter media and the fuel additive. The housing also provides a multi-purpose aperture provided in the top of the housing to provide for removal and/or replacement of the fuel additive and venting and priming of the housing. The filter media and fuel additive are entirely fabricated from combustible materials so that both may be easily discarded without cost and environmental concerns.
