Abstract:
A method for trimming a rectangular container and an apparatus trimming a rectangular container are provided, by which an appropriate cut surface with a possible crack or burr suppressed can be obtained when a rectangular container is trimmed. When a punch cutter is initially allowed to cut into a rectangular tubular portion of an untrimmed rectangular container, the punch cutter is inclined relative to a thickness direction of a cut area of the rectangular tubular portion, and then, the punch cutter is circumferentially moved along a trim line on the rectangular tubular portion to cut the rectangular tubular portion.
Abstract:
A trim tool for trimming a part having a complex shape. The trim tool defines a plurality of electro-hydraulic cavities that are separated by walls in a lower die of the trim tool. Electrodes are discharged in the electro-hydraulic cavities to drive the panel into engagement with a trim steel edge. The discharge of the electrode severs the panel above the cavity and also across a portion of a wall separating adjacent cavities. Discharging an electrode in an adjacent cavity completes the trim operation above the wall.
Abstract:
A battery case is made by cutting from a blank case of a bottomed cylindrical battery case having an unwanted portion at an opening portion the unwanted portion from the case wall in the circumferential direction by a blade. The cutting of the case wall is performed so as to render a cutting-end portion higher than a cutting-start portion. Thus, re-cutting of the cutting-start portion by the blade after it has already completed one rotation can be avoided. As a result, the generation of thread-like chips from re-cutting of the cut surface can be avoided.
Abstract:
An improved apparatus for trimming an irregular open end of a container body is disclosed. The improved trimmer cartridge includes a sealed gear housing, for retention of interior lubricant and to reduce contamination. An adjustment mechanism, accessible from the exterior of the housing, is provided to adjust a gap between two blades of the trimmer cartridge. The adjustment mechanism provides improved control over the gap width, which is between 8-25% of the can metal thickness. Additionally, a tang that is removably connected to a shaft for a first blade provides rotational power for the trimmer. The tang is replaceable without requiring the housing to be opened or requiring replacement of the blade shaft. Another blade shaft is provided for a second blade, with the two blade shafts having substantially equal mass. The trimmer also includes spur gears, which do not have the thrust load associated with prior art helical gears.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a cutter assembly and a method of using a cutter assembly. The cutter assembly comprises a fixed knife support shaft with a top end and a bottom end, a fixed knife mounted adjacent the top of the fixed knife support shaft, a moving knife support shaft with a top end and a bottom end and a moving knife mounted adjacent the top of the fixed knife support shaft, wherein the moving knife has a non-cutting position and a cutting position and the moving knife support is adapted to be rotated about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the moving knife support shaft to put the moving knife into the cutting position.
Abstract:
An improved tank configuration includes a die employed to stamp a formed member. The formed member may be used as the bottom head for a portable liquid container, and is constructed so that all welding is eliminated in the corner portions of the container. A trim machine is employed to remove uneven edges from the formed part. The invention is particularly useful in constructing sloped bottom tanks of increased depth. By the present invention, a stamped configuration is provided in which a draw formed tank bottom is formed so as to allow complete and full drainage of the tank bottom. The bottom head is finish trimmed to exact dimensions so as to facilitate assembly to the shell of the tank.
Abstract:
A trimming apparatus (10) for removing the dome scrap (152) from a blow, molded bottle (150) is described. The apparatus includes an advancement wheel (12) and a rotation wheel (14) mounted on opposite sides of a path (16) formed by upper guide rails (18 and 20), lower guide rails (22 and 24) and the wheels. A knife assembly (62) is adjustably mounted beneath the advancement wheel and includes a knife blade (64) which extends into the path slightly in front of the area tangent to the wheels. The wheels are connected to drive motors (26 and 28). In use, the bottle is fed into the path such that the upper guide rails engage each side of the groove (152A) of the dome scrap. As the bottle moves into the apparatus, the advancement wheel engages the groove to move the bottle into the path between the wheels. When the bottle reaches the area of the path tangent to the wheels, the rotation wheel contacts the groove. The wheels are rotating in the same direction such that the wheels contact opposite sides of the groove in different directions thus, acting together to rotate the bottle. As the bottle rotates, the knife blade contacts the notch (150A) of the bottle and severs the dome scrap.

An improved tank configuration wherein a die is employed to stamp a formed member is disclosed. The formed member may be used as either the top or bottom head for a portable liquid container, and is constructed so that all welding is eliminated in the corner and outlet portions of the container. A trim machine is employed to remove uneven edges from the formed part. By the present invention, a stamped configuration is provided in which a draw formed tank bottom is formed so as to allow complete and full drainage of the tank bottom. The top and bottom heads are finish trimmed to exact dimensions so as to facilitate the assembly of these parts to the shell of the tank.
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided for fabricating a wide-mouth plastic container, having an annular flange extending radially outwardly at the wide-mouth, from a stretch blow-molded intermediate article, having a dome-like accommodation portion extending radially-outwardly at a flange area and upwardly and inwardly from the wide-mouth of a generally cylindrical body portion. The apparatus provides for a two stage cutting and trimming operation which produces a precision concentric uniform flange around the wide-mouth of the fabricated container and provides for alternately and simultaneously performing the fabricating operations to provide a desired speed of operation of the apparatus.
