摘要: Trace amount levels of heavy metals such as mercury in crude oil are reduced by contacting the crude oil with a sufficient amount of a reducing agent to convert at least a portion of the non-volatile mercury into a volatile form of mercury, which can be subsequently removed by any of stripping, scrubbing, adsorption, and combinations thereof. In one embodiment, at least 50% of the mercury is removed. In another embodiment, the removal rate is at least 99%. In one embodiment, the reducing agent is selected from sulfur compounds containing at least one sulfur atom having an oxidation state less than +6; ferrous compounds; stannous compounds; oxalates; cuprous compounds; organic acids which decompose to form CO2 and/or H2 upon heating; hydroxylamine compounds; hydrazine compounds; sodium borohydride; diisobutylaluminium hydride; thiourea; transition metal halides; and mixtures thereof.

摘要: Provided is a bubble generating process used to treat dewaxed lube base stocks to improve their filterability, hazy appearance or both. In one form, the process for improving at least one of haze appearance and filterability of a dewaxed lubricating oil basestock contained in a storage vessel includes contacting the lubricating oil basestock with gas bubbles passed through a gas distribution grid for a time sufficient to form a mixture of froth and gas treated basestock, allowing the mixture of froth and gas treated basestock to settle for a time sufficient to form a froth layer and a gas treated basestock layer, and separating the froth layer from the gas treated basestock layer, wherein a basestock having improved haze, improved filterability or both may be isolated from the gas treated basestock layer.

摘要: A method is provided for removing carbonyl sulfide out of a H.sub.2 O-containing fluid stream, such as petrochemical vent gas, air, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and hydrocarbons, by determining how much carbon monoxide is present in the fluid stream; adding carbon monoxide to the fluid stream to obtain a carbon monoxide to carbonyl sulfide volume ratio of at least 1:1 and to also convert the carbonyl sulfide into hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, and passing the hydrogen sulfide containing fluid through a hydrogen sulfide removal system, so as to obtain a fluid substantially free from carbonyl sulfide and hydrogen sulfide.

摘要: A process for enhancement of the cetane number of a diesel fuel which in one embodiment comprises:(1) treating a diesel oil with a nitrogenous treating agent in a nitrogen amount, equivalent on a 100% nitric acid basis, to about 10 weight percent or less of the diesel oil feed;(2) separating unreacted nitrogenous treating agent from the diesel oil of step (1);(3) treating the diesel oil of step (2) with an inorganic alkali to produce a treated diesel oil; and(4) blending the treated diesel oil of step (3) with an untreated diesel oil to produce a blended diesel fuel such that the added nitrogen content in the blended diesel fuel is(a) about 300 ppm or less of nitrogen added when the diesel oil treated in step (1) is obtained from virgin diesel oil stock; or(b) about 450 ppm or less of nitrogen added when the diesel oil treated in step (1) is obtained from hydrotreated diesel oil stock.

摘要: A hydrocarbon containing feed stream, e.g., a heavy oil or residuum, is contacted under suitable reaction conditions with a carbon monoxide containing gas, so as to produce a hydrocarbon stream having a reduced level of metal impurities, especially nickel and vanadium compounds, and an increased API.sup.60 gravity, essentially in the absence of a catalyst or extractant.
